OpenAI, kończąc swoją dotychczasową wyłączną współpracę chmurową z Microsoftem, ogłosiło podpisanie nowej, wieloletniej umowy z Amazon Web Services (AWS). Kontrakt opiewa na gigantyczną kwotę 38 miliardów dolarów i jest częścią nowej strategii firmy, polegającej na dywersyfikacji dostawców mocy obliczeniowej.
Umowa z AWS ma zapewnić OpenAI dostęp do setek tysięcy procesorów graficznych NVIDII, w tym najnowszych modeli GB200 i GB300, oraz dziesiątków milionów procesorów CPU. Infrastruktura ta jest niezbędna nie tylko do trenowania przyszłych modeli AI, ale przede wszystkim do obsługi bieżących, gigantycznych obciążeń związanych z działaniem ChatGPT. „Skalowanie granicznej sztucznej inteligencji wymaga ogromnej, niezawodnej mocy obliczeniowej” – stwierdził Sam Altman, CEO OpenAI.
Multi-cloud to nowa strategia
Decyzja o zakończeniu wyłączności z Microsoft Azure i wejściu we współpracę z AWS, a także z innymi graczami (jak Oracle czy Google Cloud), to fundamentalna zmiana w strategii OpenAI. Firma nie chce już być uzależniona od jednego dostawcy. Ruch ten pokazuje, że dostęp do najwydajniejszych GPU przestał być zwykłym towarem „na żądanie” – stał się zasobem strategicznym, wymagającym gigantycznych, długoterminowych inwestycji i zabezpieczenia u wielu partnerów.
Doniesienia branżowe, choć w dużej mierze spekulacyjne, malują obraz olbrzymich wydatków. Umowa z AWS na 38 mld dolarów to podobno tylko część większego planu. W sieci krążą informacje o rzekomych zobowiązaniach sięgających 250 miliardów dolarów dla Microsoftu i 300 miliardów dla Oracle. Pełna moc obliczeniowa z samej umowy z AWS ma być wdrożona do końca 2026 roku.
Dla reszty rynku jest to jasny sygnał. Dyskusja „budować czy kupować” infrastrukturę AI właśnie się zakończyła. Skoro nawet OpenAI, wydając setki miliardów, buduje swoje rozwiązania na wynajętym sprzęcie, cała reszta rynku jest skazana na zarządzane platformy, takie jak Amazon Bedrock czy Google Vertex AI. Co więcej, budżetowanie AI definitywnie przestało być kosztem operacyjnym IT, a stało się długoterminowym planowaniem kapitałowym, podobnym do budowy nowej fabryki.
