Hätte aber auch nicht mein Problem mit Bahn- und Hotel-WLANs gelöst.

@rinnerer @FrankB1274 Per #Wireguard und mit der #Fritzbox hatte ich regelmäßig Probleme. Beispiel im Netz der deutschen Bahn oder in manchen Hotels, wo VPN-Verbindungen (zumindest zu privaten IP-Adressen, also dem Anschluss zu Hause) offenbar unterbunden werden.
Ich habe jetzt #Netbird aus Berlin für mich entdeckt. Machen im Prinzip das, was #Tailscale anbietet.
While I was away, I finally got NetBird back up and running, and damn it was hard but it’s worth the effort
Setting it up with PocketID for authentication was probably the most headachy thing I could’ve pulled off, but now that it’s done and stable, I ain’t touching it
If you are looking for a stable and fully self hosted Tailscale replacement, I highly recommend !

NetBird is een open-source alternatief voor traditionele VPN’s — met een Zero Trust-aanpak en gebruik van WireGuard.
Het biedt directe, versleutelde verbindingen tussen apparaten zonder centrale server.
Looks like adding a CNAME record in AdGuard Home pointing to my #Tailscale host and an A record pointing that to my local IP doesn't work anymore through Tailscale. Luckily #NetBird recently introduced custom DNS zones, so now DNS resolution for my home server only needs 1 trip both locally and through NetBird.
I've been trying for 2 days now to #selfhost a #netbird server behind my existing #nginx proxy, to no avail. Meticulously followed instructions by the nice install script. Watched the very friendly Youtube video.
Opened an account on their support forum, but as a new user I am not allowed to tag my questions as being about self hosting.
Is my impression wrong that @netbird actively tries to hinder selfhosting? If so, what did I miss?
Has anybody else a working setup who would be able to share configuration?
I'd like to replace Tailscale, and rather than continuing to rely on its clients even when I use #headscale, Netbird seems to be the better option.

mam tam 3 vlastni #DNS (cluster) ktere posilam klientum. Kdyz mi padne to prvni v seznamu, tak resolve nejede vubec a ten interni dns na device od netbirdu proste neresolvuje a nepreskoci na jeden z dalsich. Nevim jestli je chyba nekde u me, nebo to proste nezvlada mentalne. Pres keepalived to nechci resit, protoze mam sakra cluster a chci to mit pristupny na vice IP ... dela to na iOS, macu i linuxu. Windows nemam, tak nemam jak otestovat 😔 Nejake rady?

OK, after several attempts, I think I will stick to tailscale+headscale
#netbird looked nice, but it has some rough edges (e.g., DNS is not changed in the client, event the "disable" option is off), and it is not worth the extra effort.

Alright alright, PocketID is up and running, super smooth as I had read
But now it’s about configuring NetBird with this new IDP, and in a bit under a year between now and the initial installation, the setup is still a headache
Even starting from scratch, the documentation is lacking, the logs are not helping, and the whole stack is overwhelming as it stands…
But I’ll get it to work, definitely

WireGuard is the recent hotness in encrypted access. NetBird coordinates the tunnels you define via a central management console. It also permits easy access between devices behind NAT.
And unlike other systems in this space, NetBird can be entirely self-hosted! The central components can run on a tiny VM just about anywhere.
Irgendwie scheint mein Netzwerk für #netbird zu komplex zu sein oder Netbird für mich.
Es sind doch bloss 5 Sites mit ca. 15 Routen.
Oder es beisst sich mit dem bestehenden Wireguard Netz und dem OSPF…
Und dass man es auf verschiedenen Arten machen kann, hilft nun auch nicht unbedingt
