Do ya'll remember months ago when I posted about planting out a #cacao nursery? Well, those plants have mostly prospered and little by little they are getting transplanted into their permanent homes. The goal for this week is to get the last of nearly 1500 baby trees in the ground.

¿Recuerdan cuando hace unos meses publiqué sobre un vivero de #cacao que Michael estaba armando? Bueno, esas plantas han prosperado en su mayoría y poco a poco se están trasplantando a sus hogares permanentes. La meta para esta semana es sembrar el último de casi 1500 árboles bebé.

Yesterday was such a gloriously perfect day. A trip to the river with the kids, a nice little harvest of tomatoes, sorghum, and broomcorn - and some pira foraged from among the weeds. Then, I got curious about weaving cattail fronds, so I sat by the pond for a good while listening to the birds and improvising myself a sombrero.

Ayer fue un día gloriosamente perfecto. Una excursión al río con los niños, una buena cosecha de tomates, sorgo y maíz de escoba, y un poco de pira buscada entre el monte. Luego, me picó la curiosidad por tejer hojas de totora, así que me senté al lado del poso un buen rato a escuchar a los pájaros e improvisarme un sombrero.

Because we are still laying the foundations of the productive systems on the farm, most of our energy is spent on plantings and projects that won't 'give fruits' for years to come. But if we pull our heads out of the future, nearly every day we have the chance to appreciate just how far we've come.

Sitting down to a breakfast where everything is 100% sourced from the farm is so incredibly fulfilling.

Como todavía estamos trabajando en las bases de los sistemas productivos, la mayor parte de nuestra energía se gasta en sembrar cultivos y proyectos que no "darán frutos" hasta dentro de unos años. Pero si sacamos la mente del futuro para estar presente en el momento, casi todos los días tenemos la oportunidad de apreciar lo que hemos logrado.

Sentarse a desayunar un plato en el que todo procede al 100% de la finca es increíblemente gratificante.

Our farm is pretty isolated and we don't get many visitors. When we do, I always feel a fresh sense of inspiration and motivation to keep doing what we do.

Farm tours allow us to explain the philosophies that guide us while showing what they look like in action. It's an opportunity to talk about the evolution of systems and our hope for the future. Seeing other people's appreciation for and interest in what we do is incredibly validating.

After going on 9 months of extreme drought, over 2" of rain from tropical storm Arlene. We hope rainy season follows soon. We need likely 3" more to saturate our sand dune enough to hold moisture. We lost some plants but others are doing surprisingly well - journaling as much as we can about that. #climatediary #westcentralFlorida #permaculturefarm
