A large format film photograph of a portrait originally in black and white, the subject has been somewhat obscured by another image which acts as a mask. On top of this a gradient can be seen through certain parts of the mask image, revealing or concealing elements of the portrait.

Very proud to announce that 'Spectral' is now live.

A collaboration with patient sitters who visited our studio in May and shot their own self portraits on an old 1950's camera. I then combined these images using a little css wizardry.

There are:
20 portraits
31 masks
23 gradients

These get loaded into the browser and stacked at random. Click refresh in the top right to seed a new layout of randomly stacked images (or you can hard refresh). It will work on mobile but you are missing the full experience if not on desktop.

Analog selfies

Helllllo! We’re opening up studio MALARKEY for portrait sessions. Come on down on Fri May 30th and have your free portrait taken. If you have ever wanted the luxury of having your photograph taken using analog technology but then having to wait days to see the results, then this event is for you.

“But why would I want get involved in that”, I hear you cry.

I will be using some very old tech, a large format Kodak camera from the 1950’s.
You get push the shutter! Yes, I have a super long (pneumatic) cable release and to give sitters some autonomy, they get to trigger the camera.
You’ll get a copy of the photograph emailed to you.
The negative is massive. Like really big, 5x7 inches in fact.
There will be lots of interesting and creative people present who you can talk to.
It will be a lot of fun.
There’ll be refreshments.

In a few days, I’m traveling to Spain to begin the Heritage Lens project.

The Heritage Lens project arises from the need to address the accelerating threats that climate change poses to European cultural heritage.

The project promotes cross-collaboration between photographers, cultural heritage experts, and environmental activists.

I’m very grateful to have been selected for this initiative, and I look forward to the collaboration and research with other artists, scientists, and environmental activists.

Photography sometimes feels like singing into a void.
At least if you only show your work on social media, on a website that was a photo centered page, clumsily rebuilt into a marketing and advertisment website. That is what instagram has become. None of my work had even the chance to reach the audience interested in the topic, despite my best attempts on pleasing the alghoritm gods.
For the past year or so i spent my free time documenting the cycling scene in Rotterdam with focus on the fixed gear cyclists, following the events and regurals of a bike shop Bikes And Records.
It's a good glimpse into my work and what i hope to keep posting on here.
