The #Eksternest is a youth house where children provide for their own needs. It's housed in an early 20th century yellow brick building in a stair roof style that is typical for the area around Ypres. Lined to the right with a hedge and trees. The entrance has a flaming red mailbox.

More or less the same but now the pathway is gravel instead of stone.

Yesterday I went to Velofollies in #Kortrijk. As I had some time to kill before the train to arrive for te way back, I decided to visit the #begijnhof. Situated not far from the cities Grote Markt, it turned out to be an excellent decision as there wasn't too much people (as you will be able to tell from the pictures.)

It's recently been renovated and a #UNESCO #Heritage site. Really enjoyed it. The #Pentax #Q7 and 08 wide Zoom did too.

The Begijnhof Kortrijk is one of 13 that is pretected heritage in Belgium. It's a place where woman gathered and were self-supporting, because there was an overpopulation of women due to warfare and famine. A real city within a city the houses were small and white with almost always a chapel in the middle.

The #waterbus is a #shuttle running the river #scheldt from the village of Hemiksem all the way down into the #harbour of #Antwerp covering 8 stops in total. Introduced by Port of Antwerp (the port authority) as a commuting alternative (Antwerp is one of the most congested cities in Europe) it is very popular amongst commuters and tourists alike.

Recently the Flemish Community took charge of the exploitation and to celebrate, the bridge could be visited during #openbedrijvendag a yearly event in Flanders where companies give an insight behind the scenes.

The (dutch) captain was very friendly and spoke passionately about every aspect of the boat. Very interesting!

Several screens with all kinds of data (a digital compass, meters displaying the motors, etc.) In front on a board next to the captain a pair of binoculars, cellphone, sun glasses, etc and also a banana. The harbour of Antwerp can be seen from the window.

Albert I bridge over the river Meuse in Liège, Belgium at night Its a metal and concrete thing with nothing really interesting but that it is illuminated at night by lights that change in colour and thus give the bridge a different glow. Here the glow is all blue. Photo is taken on the underwalk, of which the railing can be seen (also glowing in shade of blue.)

I really enjoyed the exposition 'expo-pauldelvaux' which focuses on the work of #delvaux. There is also work from contemporaries like #Warhol #Ensor #Permeke #Margrite and others. Also nice explanations of how a particular work came to be. Really nice curation and some excellent work from him.

If you are in the neighbourhood, this is a must see.

Q wie Q7 (Audi)

Immer größer ist das Mantra der Automobilindustrie. SUV's machen bei den Gesamtzulassungen von 2.651.357 Fahrzeugen alleine in Deutschland 1.077.074 aus und damit einen Anteil von 40,6 Prozent.
Die Nachteile brauchen kaum erklärt werden. Ein Einblick in die Zahlen ist erschreckend, wenn wir uns den Audi Q7 mit seinen gigantischen Abmessungen 5,067 m Länge, 2,212 m Breite und einer Höhe von 1,743 m vorstellen. Damit die Kritik an SUVs nicht falsch verstanden wird: Am Ende geht es aber darum gar nicht einfach 48 Millionen kleinere Autos mit anderem Antrieb in Deutschland zu haben, sondern viel viel viel viel viel weniger. Eine radikale Reduzierung meint: Weg vom MIV hin zum ÖPNV. Autos sind eine Ausnahme und nicht die Regel. Und wo sie notwendig sind, teilen wir diese.

R wie Ressourcen

Die hohen Rohstoffbedarfe von E-SUV, die die Bundesregierung für Autobauer wie VW mitunter aus Lateinamerika deckt, zerstören ökologische und soziale Reproduktionsbedingungen. Gleichzeitig werden koloniale Macht- und Herrschaftsverhältnisse vertieft. Das kann so nicht weitergehen. Wir brauchen für ein Gutes Leben für Alle nicht immer mehr Ressourcen und Energie, sondern vor allem ein Weniger.

S wie Straßenbahn

Die Straßenbahn ist effizient, sozial gerecht, zum Nulltarif zu haben, barrierearm, schnell und leise sowie natürlich auch umweltfreundlich. Diese Gründe machen klar: Wir brauchen eine Straßenbahn. Wenn Kommunen aber heute gerne eine bestellen wollen, warten diese zwischen fünf und zehn Jahre darauf, weil es nicht genügend Produktionskapazitäten und politischen Willen gibt. Deswegen machen wir Druck, damit die weltweit größte Fabrik in die zukunftsfähige Straßenbahnproduktion einsteigen kann. "Wer künftig Straßenbahnen baut, keine Arbeitsplätze klaut. Tut etwas das allen nützt, die Umwelt und das Klima schützt."

T wie Trinity

Trinity war das Tesla-Konkurrenz Produkt von VW. Die E-Luxus-Limousine, die kein Mensch braucht, aber dafür eigens ein neues Werk auf 130ha Ackerfläche nördlich der ohnehin weltweit größten Fabrik gebaut werden sollte. Glücklicherweise ist dieses Projekt auf Eis gelegt und es gibt kaum noch eine Chance, dass es wiederbelebt wird. Zwei Monate - von September bis November 2022 - gab es ein "Stop Trinity" Protestcamp auf dem Acker, um sich mit vielen Menschen zu vernetzen und klar zu machen: Wir brauchen eine Verkehrswende und keine Antriebswende. "Wir haben eine Utopie - Straßenbahn statt Trinity".

M WIE MOTORISIERTER INDIVIDUALVERKEHR (MIV)
Es gibt aktuell rund 49 Millionen zugelassene Autos in Deutschland. 23 Stunden am Tag stehen diese durchschnittlich still und nehmen Platz in Anspruch, der deutlich sinnvoller als Wohnraum oder Grünflächen gestaltet werden sollte. Wenn diese Autos sich dann rund eine Stunde am Tag bewegen, sitzen nur 1,3 Menschen drin. Diese Mobilität ist gefährlich, ressourcenverschwendend und ungerecht. Sie ist sozial und ökologisch nicht sinnvoll und wird sich ändern. Wir haben viel zu gewinnen, wenn wir gemeinsam für das Gute Leben für Alle kämpfen.

N wie Neuwagen

Alleine in Wolfsburg sollen in der weltweit größten Autofabrik jährlich 1.000.000 (Million) Neuwägen vom Band laufen und aggressiv auf Markt gedrängt werden. Das ist alles andere als sinnvoll, ökologisch und zukunftsfähig. Letztes Jahr war das Werk zu weniger als 40% ausgelastet. Was ein vollkommenes Versagen des Managements auf Kosten der Kolleg*innen darstellt, ist ökologisch betrachtet durchaus positiv zu bewerten. Denn: „… besser als einen SUV nicht zu kaufen oder zu fahren, ist, ihn gar nicht erst zu produzieren. Sinnvoller als die gesamte Fahrzeugflotte beizubehalten und sie lediglich auf Elektromobilität umzustellen, ist der Weg zu nachhaltigen Mobilitätskonzepten, die einen optimalen Mix aus verschiedenen Verkehrsmitteln ermöglichen." (Klaus Dörre, Professor für Arbeits- und Industriesoziologie)

O wie Opelstreik

1972 gründeten ein paar Arbeiter und Revolutionäre bei Opel in Bochum die "Gruppe oppositioneller Gewerkschafter"(GoG). Die GoG existierte über 40 Jahre und hat mit ihrer radikalen Betriebsarbeit den Widerstandsgeist in der Bochumer Belegschaft befeuert. Ihre radikalen Aktivitäten kulminierten schließlich in einem der wichtigsten Wilden Streiks der deutschen Nachkriegsgeschichte, als die Belegschaft im Oktober 2004 sechs Tage lang das Werk besetzte und die Produktion in ganz Europa lahmlegte.

P wie Porsche, Ferdinand

Nicht nur mit der Benennung der Hauptstraße ehrt die Stadt Wolfsburg den Kriegsverbrecher Ferdinand Porsche, nein sogar eine Bronzestatue “schmückt” den Platz vor dem Rathaus. “Genialer und erfolgreicher Erfinder” wird Porsche immer wieder genannt. Der Nationalsozialist, korrupte Unternehmer, SS-Oberführer und hobbymäßige Autoschrauber Ferdinand Porsche baute das VW Werk auf Einladung von Adolf Hitler. Auch mit dabei waren mindestens 20.000 Zwangsarbeiter*innen. 1945 floh er nach Österreich, wo heute sein Enkel Wolfgang Porsche mit 53% über die Porsche Holding SE VW lenkt.
