So You Didn’t Buy a Raspberry Pi: Step 1

If you buy a Raspberry Pi, the order of operations is simple. But what if you buy a NotRaspberryPi™?

Radxa Dragon Q6A is an Arm-based single-board PC with Windows and Linux support

The Radxa Dragon Q6A is a credit card-sized computer that looks a lot like a Raspberry Pi. But it’s an interesting little device for a few reasons. One is that it has an m.2 slot with support for PCIe 3.0 x2 2230 SSDs. And another is that this little computer is powered by a Qualcomm DragonWing QCS6490 processor.

Like most single-board Computers (SBC) with Arm-based processors, the Dragon Q6A […]

“I found a blog post on Interfacing #Linux that used #FEX on a #Radxa Orion O6 with an #AMD #RX570 attached, and they had significantly more success than me.”

Thinking about one of the #radxa for my #HomeLab radxa.com/products/orion/o6/

For a long overdue move from a single tower to a proper rack. Anyone have one and have thoughts on it or potential caveats?

I will run my #x86 board alongside it for certain workloads, but would like to move to this as the main machine. Not sure what my options would be for connecting a bunch of drives or if I'd be better suited building a NAS and not connecting drives to it.

Seems like I built a modern U-Boot image that actually runs on the #radxa #E52C

Today I tried to run something other than Linux (or Windows 11) on my #radxa Rock 5B using the #uefi from edk2-porting/edk2-rk3588 So:
  • #FreeBSD 15 (20251120) and 16 (20251110-dbb34d496708-281771): they boot but no network
  • #NetBSD 10.1: first stage boot (it grow its rootfs) and network seem to be recognized. after the reboot, the console freeze after "Setting tty flags."
  • #OpenBSD 7.8: "booting sd0a:/bsd: sd0a:/bsd: Inappropriate file type or format" - regression since the bootloader worked on 7.7

It seems to be quite hard to get VyOS to run on custom arm64 hardware (in this case the #radxa E52C):

The vendor U-Boot is too old for any kind of EFI support.
Upstream U-Boot has defconfig files for similar boards, even a dts for the E52C, but I am still a few missing pieces away from building U-Boot with a bootefi command for that board.
So I guess for now this means patching VyOS so that it won't require EFI.

New challenge: #Radxa #Rock5ITX + #UEFI
With a #linux #kernel 6.15+ everything works perfect, I tested #Ubuntu 25.10 and #Fedora 43 with success. 🥰

Let's talk about the elephant: Windows 11 IOT ARM64.
It's a weird workaround: Booting from USB, as Windows has no fitting SATA/NVME drivers.
Every boot starts with a repair attempt, but finally Win 11 shows up.
And surprise: Performance is much better than on my Qualcom 7c devices.

Everyone should get a rock 5 board to play with, 😁 it's fun!
