I got the first coat of water-borne urethane on this table today. Four more to go, 24 hours apart, with sanding in between. I think it's going to look nice! It's maple, and the finish I'm using claims it will not yellow like regular urethane. It's also super-low voc. It's whey-based! This is a wooden box I stripped and refinished. This photo, taken in a basement workshop type area, shows what the box looked like before. It had heavy green industrial paint and a raised but broken duck element on the front. The box was pretty beat up and needed a complete strip and refinish.

Took a long weekend to do whatever the heck I want to do….which turns out to be repairing/refinishing an wooden antique tool chest and vegetable gardening.

Large possibly industrial space being prepared for repainting and refinishing, a wooden cabinet stripped of varnish in the foreground, and supply shelves by a back wall, all framed in a circular opening.

This is the latest piece I’ve refinished. I’m not the first one to bring it back as I could see the work done before me as I sanded and reconstructed it. I used guilding wax on parts of the legs to highlight the floral leaf pattern. The inlaid gold wire on top was done for the original piece. I am always so impressed by the original craftsmanship when I work on these. For reference, it’s about a cubic foot. Not sure if its original use. #DIY #refinishing

Does anyone on here have any experience with #refinishing #science #lab benches? Most are #epoxy #resin (very flat and smooth, softer) but some are #phenol (slight textured, harder & lighter). We have had this little side table in our basement for too many years. It’s kidney-shaped and has 3 legs. It has been painted by someone else at least twice. First green and then white. I found this chest of drawers on a street with "free" on it, so grabbed it. It had been covered in a thick, ugly khaki / brown solid paint, and the original brown stain under that (you can still see a bit on the top there - will have another go at dissolving it away with ethanol). I have sanded it fairly smooth, but want to get one grade smoother.

What should I do with it now?
