So, if I get it correctly, the #LibrePhone project is basically a continuation of #ReplicantOS, right? In the sense of taking an existing version of #AOSP , then writing free substitute drivers for every non-free component. Would this help a project like #PostmarketOS to build a fully free phone?

@lukasrotermund @patrickleavy well completely free (as in libre software) postmarket OS is not too different to an android derivative (i.e. #lineageos ): drivers, vendor firmware, etc.

The only 'completely free' alternative is #replicantOS (https://replicant.us) (perhaps #mobian too? Using #linuxlibre ? I dont know)

Currently, I am on the same Xperia device as you. I am content with it except for short battery life and a somewhat glitchy #Androidappsupport experience.

@dazinism If this is the case, I'd be delighted and give my personal thanks to Google. But I'm afraid this is not the case my friend. They might have open source drivers but they do have binary blobs at least somewhere (so they're not Free Software because blobs are not human readable). Usually the blob has to be present for wifi/bluetooth/something else to work. Without them that feature will not work. e.g.Wifi does not work on devices when running #ReplicantOS

@johanonym pas exactement. Ce que je cherche plutôt quels sont les projets stratégiques en "amont" de LineageOS et de /e/. C'est à dire les briques/bibliothèques/services dont y il y a besoin pour faciliter la création de ROM dégooglisées (ces deux là sont de bons exemples mais idéalement, ça bénéficierait à toutes les ROM dans ce genre là (y'a #replicantOS aussi) mais aussi ce qui peut permettre de coder des appli en se passant des services Google.

Okay, trying to install #ReplicantOS on my secondary smartphone I have lying around, for shits and giggles.
No WiFi with built-in hardware, though

Je ferais un max de retour une fois installé.

Et le playstore n'offre rien d'intéressant à la plupart des français, si ce n'est des jeux soi disant gratuit mais on sait tous qu'il ne le sont pas.
C'est pour ça que je communique maintenant sur les logiciels libre, seul #replicantos est totalement libre sur smartphone mais la route est longue pour elle encore ;-)

@sbohems je dois me motivé pour reinstaller un #Debian, config un #Primtux2 , shooter un #windows et j'ai la foi installer #replicantos sur mon galaxy s3.

Je sous traite si quelqu'un est motivé à bosser gratuitement un dimanche.
