This was a very straightforward installation!
And Ubuntu Touch works *very* nicely on a Google Pixel 3a XL. I am rather impressed.
My plan for it is quite limited - essentially, a mobile terminal - but it should be fun to experiment with it all the same.
I also have a Xiomi Poco X3 to try at some point, but I, erm, seemingly damaged the charging port by connecting it to the charger I use normally for a phone. I will try to fix it all the same.

"On 25th Oct 2025, I announced via my personal blog and on Mastodon that Fre(i)e Software GmbH was hiring. The hiring process was a mix of asking developers I know and waiting for new people to apply.
At the beginning of November 2025 / in mid November 2025, we started with 13 developers (all part-time) to work on various topics around Lomiri (upstream and downstream).
Note that the below achievements don't document the overall activity in the Lomiri project, but that part that our team at Fre(i)e Software GmbH contributed to."

Not cheap but this German made phone offers de-Googled Android in the form of Volla OS and can dual boot with Ubuntu Touch, which is Linux derived.
A bonus is that the battery is easily replaced, as with Fairphone.
Free of GooglePlay, it will not be affected by Google's intended 'ban' on Fdroid, due in September.
@jon_bon it seems that's Ubuntu Touch's default browser and using the uAdblockNG app is a quite decent setup (and simple for new users)

Hey @ubports and #ubuntutouch users and fans, what is the current status of the following, as they are the two major road blocks for me moving to UBports; Signal and running android apps. While I want to be able to use just Linux apps, there are some work applications that require me to use some android apps, specifically from the play store.

Bardzo podoba mi się podejście #fairphone do kwestii instalowania innych systemów na ich urządzeniach. Jeżeli dojdzie do zamknięcia Androda, to będę mógł wówczas przemigrować na np. #lineageos bez utracenia swojej gwarancji. Czuję, że nadejdzie czas, gdy będę musiał skorzystać z takiej opcji, ale zanim do tego dojdzie... Mam dwa stare telefony w domu, z którymi mogę się pobawić i przetestować sobie tzw. custom ROMy Androida czy większe nisze jak #ubuntutouch czy #postmarketos ;)

Yes and no. #ubports #ubuntutouch is not the same as desktop #ubuntu: it's an immutable OS and the apps are tailored for small screen devices. You *can* run arbitrary Linux programs, but only in the Libertine container, which is a bit of a fiddle but does work especially in full-screen mode. Beaming to a full-size screen has some lag though; a wired connection is better but only some devices support that. It's great to experiment with but not yet full convergence, and I wouldn't ditch the desktop/laptop yet!
Naast mijn 'daily' Pixel 8 pro met #graphenos nu al een paar weken bezig om te ontdekken welk alternatief (Linux) OS het beste past op mijn tweede toestel de Fairphone 5.
Mijn voorkeur gaat uit naar #sailfishos en ook #ubuntutouch draait goed. #Postmarketos is nog teveel in ontwikkeling om het echt dagelijks te gebruiken.
Maar voor dagelijks gebruik zijn er echt te weinig native apps, en ja je kan veel in de browser doen maar die zijn vaak ook verouderd.
