I spent a few days in Sooke, BC, thinking about how #carbrained it is (like the rest of Canadian towns, to be frank).

Here's a cycling heatmap. Green is a popular and good rail trail, that however doesn't go into town. To get into town, you have to stay on the highway (red), whatever your mode of transportation is. Yellow is a 60km/h road with no shoulder and an occasional sidewalk.

Why isn't there a safer and more pleasant connection for people walking and cycling?

a heatmap of travel activities, with Sook on the west side
a heat line goes east out of Sooke, and splits into one that goes north and one that goes south-east
the north and south-east sections marked as green, the section that goes through Sooke is marked as red, and there's a small shrtcut section marked as yellow that connects green and red for a short time

#ThickTrunkTuesday

Family of 2nd & 3rd growth fir trees, growing out of a hillside cliff, dripping with lichens 🌲🌲🌲🌲😍

A landscape image showing several fir trees growing on an earth mound. One tree's trunk grows vertically, then bends horizontally to connect with another tree, looking like a natural bridge. The trees are dark green with dense needles, and the forest floor is covered in lush greenery, mossy patches, and hanging lichen. The sky is visible through the canopy.
