SPICED CRANBERRY FRENCH 75

½ oz lemon juice
½ oz simple syrup
1 oz gin
float sparkling wine

Garnish: none
Method: I normally batch this one, adding 20% water to dilute. Then once both bottles of batch and champagne are chilled down, combine them in glass (heavy on champagne) and serve to the group. The picture has a reddish color because this one used spiced cranberry simple syrup instead of regular simple.

Cranberry syrup: I brought water to a boil, then brought the heat down to medium low. I threw in a bunch of sliced cranberries, a cinnamon stick, a star anise, allspice, black pepper, cloves, and a pinch of salt. I let them all cook together for an hour or so. Added 1.5x sugar compared to the water, killed the heat, stirred to incorporate fully, then strained into a bottle after it cooled.

A friend gifted me some homemade spiced apple liqueur a couple years back. Come fall I always reach for it to spark some joy as autumn ripens. As I sipped I got notes of apple, cola, baking spices, and with a 45% rye a little longer-lasting warmth from the alcohol.

MURDER MYSTERY DESSERT COCKTAIL

Method: Stir, double strain, garnish

This is an original of mine, created after receiving two gifts at a murder mystery dinner with friends. The gifted bottles are pictured in the background: Flor de Caña 12yr, and homemade spiced apple liqueur.

Adventure at the copy shop, ride on the carousel, left me peckish. Spied a Zucker’s Bagel & Smoked Fish so natch’ got a PB&J on white LOL got pastrami-spiced salmon & by the time I added tomato onion capers my sammie was almost $20. But delish & huge, just finished other half. Charming tourists too. Regret only not getting the jalapeño cream cheese.
