Para o #QuartaCapa cujo tema é “Ficção científica com crítica social foda”, trago "O Homem que Caiu na Terra" (Walter Tevis).

"Será que Newton estava procurando uma razão ─ procurando qualquer razão que fosse que desse a um homem são em um mundo insano uma razão para não estar bêbado pela manhã?".

Em determinados momentos, o autor parece usar Newton para questionar sobre a natureza humana, vícios, solidão, crise existencial etc. E, de maneira metafórica, como nós, humanos, usamos máscaras no convívio social, seja por necessidade ou conveniência. Mas chega uma hora em que precisamos encarar nós mesmos. Quando essa hora chegar, será que seremos capazes de reconhecer a imagem no espelho?

O homem que caiu na Terra, escrito em plena Guerra Fria, traz uma reflexão sobre o universo individual, no âmbito psicológico, mas também na esfera coletiva, alertando sobre o uso de armas de destruição em massa e o esgotamento dos recursos naturais que, por mais abundantes que sejam, um dia chegaremos (ou já chegamos?!) a um ponto sem retorno.
