*TRYPOPHOBIA WARNING*

Have any of you seen The Subtance (2024) with Demi Moore? I made a whole series inspired by that film. I thought it was genius how they chose that very specific Barbie pink colour as a reference: it's close enough to resemble skin but also not quite so. Synthetic, artificial skin. I tried to do something as close as I could to that. Wet, slimy, shinny like plastic. That movie is an art director's dream! All the references are just amazing. Better not look at the second slide if you have trypophobia.

The kaleidoscopic effect here is done with custom made optical crystal filters. No AI or VFx used. Most of the inks used are made by me and they move according to the manipulation of two glass plates on top of each other.

Getting inspired to do some more squish plates. This is the only technique I do that doesn't really involve macro shots. The plates I use are about 12 inches wide and what you see is a crop around 9 inches in diameter, more or less. I really enjoy doing this in a live gig format. There are many ways of creating movement apart from different ways of actually pressing the plates together. It's almost like puppeteering with water. Liquid puppeteering!

Thank you all who responded to my questions and also chipped in a few suggestions. I think I've solved the mystery of the "preview unavailable" that appears so often (at least in my timeline): after a few tests I've concluded that these are mostly video sources from other servers and platforms. Preview is fine if content is uploaded directly onto #pixelfed but videos of 15mb+ from #mastodon or other places cannot be viewed with previews here on Pixelfed. I imagine this is either due to file size or some data that simply doesn't get translated onto Pixelfed. Pixelfed videos show up on Mastodon with their preview windows just fine btw.

So, to simplify things, here is a jolly *still photo* from the current edit I'm working on. Planning to do another set of recordings with some new techniques in the next few days, so more coming...!

To me, the only stories that appear (desktop version only) are my own. Nobody else's stories show. I'd like to know if this is because people are generally not posting stories or......? And if my own stories don't appear to anyone then there's no point posting them. Just asking.

No VFx or AI here. I just adore prisms and diffraction. I remember being fascinated by them ever since I was a child. I have memories of experimenting with them as early as 6 years old! There are so many amazing light artists out there, it's a steep learning curve.

Here is a question for you all: do #peertube videos bigger than 15mb actually show on #pixelfed feeds? there are so many videos that show in my timeline that have that white/blank "no preview available" window. I wonder if the same would happen to PeerTube (or even #mastodon for that matter) videos when seen from within Pixelfed. I really like the community here and would prefer to not have to move elsewhere for videos. Any thoughts?

Still from the current video I'm working on. I thought I had added way too much soap to the mixture but in the end was able to make something of the outcome. Soap is a surfactant that reduces surface tension and one of the most important elements in any #liquidlight artist's lab. Knowing how much to use it will control the outcome of the desired shapes and sizes of the other chemichals being used. In this case here, mostly round shapes due to the lack of surface tension between the different liquids and water.
