Listicle (1/2): best movies I've seen this year (2025), ranked (contains a few spoilers)
This year has been a lot (and so was every single year since 2020). I was raised atheist, but man, something must be up with the stars! It hasn't been all bad though. One of my highlights is having enough time to watch and enjoy plenty of #movies.
1. #Sinners (2025) - needs no introduction - epic storytelling and music! I don't usually rewatch movies, but I have watched Sinners 5 times already, and I am keen to keep rewatching!
2. #WildRobot (2024) - I concede, it's not the most logically consistent movies, but it succeeded Wall-E (don't come at me please!)
3. Celia (1989) - set in Australia, exploring how the country handled the Red Scare. I am recent migrant to Aus; while Aus is still part of the Western hegemony, media from the continent gets overlooked. The only movie I can recall (I've seen) as Australin is Crocodie Dundee lol. I did not anticipate the plot twist in this movie, and I doubt you will either.
4. The Little Sister (2025) - was screened during #FringeFestival (a #queer event in South Aus). The film is a #lesbian #coming-of-age story set in Paris following Fatima, a 17-year-old French-Algerian girl. Really handled the themes well, without resorting to inescapable tragedy.

Rewatched The #WildRobot with the kiddos this weekend. I am sure it's just that being a parent has softened my heart in a very particular way, but I do love that film. It doesn't hurt that it really executes on the visual style and has a brutal streak to its humour.

Quando l'umanità si sarà diffusa per il #cosmo e avrà messo radici fuori il #sistemasolare raggiungendo strani, nuovi mondi: #mondas, #melissamajoria o il #pianeta13 i #robot ruberanno la #terra per rimettere in sesto il martoriato #ecosistema di quello che un tempo era un mondo bellissimo.
In questo #disegno la storia di un'amicizia tra una forma di vita terrestre e un'anima metallica.

This painting has been quite a journey so far! First attempt at a full watercolour illustration.
Lots of mistakes made, lots learned, and I'm probably gonna continue experimenting and refining it to see where I can take this over time!
Well, this was excellent. Original, well animated, great design, and voice acted.
#Movies don't often make me cry, and I can't right away think of one that made me cry multiple times at different points in the story. Until now, that is. “The Wild Robot” did it. A truly heartwarming and feel-good story with a surprisingly satisfying ending despite being not a straight-up happy ending. Warmly recommended. 10/10.

Just watched a stop motion animated film called #MemoirOfASnail (2024) which is 1 of 5 movies nominated for the #Oscar for Best #AnimatedFeature.
I thought Snail was "cute" & would give it a 6 out of 10 but I wouldn't buy the #DVD to add to my collection .
The only other Oscar nominated animated feature I've seen is #WildRobot (2024). I didn't like & would only give 4 out of 10. Bought Robot on DVD but returned it.
The other nominees are #WallceAndGrommetVengenceMostFowl, #Flow, #InsideOut2. Don't think Snail or Robot will win, even though I haven't seen the others. #InsideOut1 (2015) won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2015 & Inside Out 2 very well could win it again this year.
We'll see . . .
