Genuine question here for Linux users and musicians, composers, guitar players etc. I am being told by several mouthy people online that "nobody uses linux" & "nobody would use linux for music making"

How many of you use or have used Linux as a vehicle for recording music?

Please retoot/repost to help get a handle on this, cheers!

So just a heads up for people who aren’t queer, this Pride eve; Pride is around the corner and it’s probably going to feel a little different than usual.

• Expect it to feel angrier. We joke that July is Wrath month, but don’t be surprised if people at Pride events are a bit more on edge, our signs punchier, and our jokes sharper.

• Allies: more than ever before, be aware that you are guests in a queer space. Many of us are going to need the space to feel safe and comfortable for us now, more than ever.

• We have a gay agenda (see the above quote), don’t try to distract from it with platitudes. With trans people under an organized, legislative attack and nearly 60% of Republicans being against same-sex marriage, none of us are safe this year.

• Let’s not do the “Pride events need to be family friendly”. They generally are, but our family is angry.

Twitter quote from Claire Willet: for pride month this year can straight people focus less on "love is love" and more on "queer and trans people are in danger"

There are four high-quality gravitational wave detectors in the world: one in Italy, one in Japan, and two in the US. The Trump gang's new proposed NSF budget would kill one of the US ones.

While these detectors were expensive and difficult to build, they've *been built*. They are working. They are seeing amazing things, like the collisions of black holes in distant galaxies. Losing one will make it harder to study these events. We need several observatories to even locate them!

But the Republicans say: "Let's poke out one eye with a stick".

It's a small thing compared to the rest of the damage they're doing to the US. Just typical of their wilful destruction.

From the proposed budget:

“NSF supports two large physics experiments – the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) and the ATLAS and CMS detectors at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). LIGO is the most sensitive detector of gravitational waves ever built and leads the worldwide effort to study the structure and evolution of the universe through gravitational radiation. LIGO makes use of exquisitely sensitive optical interferometers at two sites – Hanford, Washington and Livingston, Louisiana – to detect gravitational waves and, in collaboration with other, similar experiments in Italy and Japan, to determine the part of the sky from which the radiation originates. Past efforts by LIGO have led to the detection of hundreds of gravitational waves originating from the collisions of black holes, neutron stars, and other celestial objects. In FY 2026 NSF will operate only one of the two sites and will support a reduced level for technology development."

Also 60% cuts at ATLAS and CMS.

I don't think anyone outside of universities, pharma and biotech, independent research institutions have any idea of what is happening right now. If you haven't sounded the alarm among your friends, family and colleagues, now is the time to do it.

quote on a dark blue and purple background from Sudip S. Parikh, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), criticizing proposed cuts to science funding in the FY26 U.S. federal budget. The quote reads:

“If enacted, the FY26 budget request would end America’s global scientific leadership. The cuts to science would imperil our nation’s future health, security and prosperity. This budget proposal stands in stark contrast to the President’s call for a renewed commitment to American scientific leadership. Congress has demonstrated a bipartisan commitment to investment in research and must do so again to answer the President’s call.”
The quote is attributed to Sudip S. Parikh, CEO of AAAS and Executive Publisher of the Science family of journals. The AAAS logo appears at the bottom right.

The story of Alma Bowman, a disabled woman and US citizen detained by ICE, just keeps getting worse.

She’s been in the country for 50 years. They took her wheelchair, denied her medications and threw her in a detention facility in Georgia.

Her case is getting a decent amount of media attention, with petitions circulating to get her released.

But did you know it’s not the first time she’s very nearly faced deportation?

In 2020, she was a key witness in a legal battle against Irwin County Detention Centre.

She helped blow the whistle about a doctor performing unnecessary hysterectomies and sterilizations on immigrant women detained in the facility.

This is Nazi level eugenics.

They’re grabbing people off the streets. They’re disappearing them. Many die in custody and/or are never seen again.

Sterilization of ‘undesirables’ is sadly nothing new. It’s a way to push white supremacy.

It takes a lot of courage to speak out against such practices, and it’s horrifying that she’s again sitting in a detention centre without due process.

Hey, listen. #Codeberg is being spammed with LLM bots right now. They started like an hour ago. Each bot is opening up one issue in a random tracker every minute.

I have no idea what the spread is, but each individual bot has like seven pages full of issues now. PieFed and FEP are both starting to see issues piling up because of this.

Insane.. The plan of the US gov to buy a shit ton of #Bitcoin over the upcoming years is thr actual intention of the hardcore Bitcoin nuts

At first they where anti-govt but knowing that if the gov buys a LOT of BTC, they will become instantly rich since the price will go up massively

It's not a "strategic reserve", it's a PUMP in a "pump & dump" but on goverment level because that where the most money is

This is not a secret either

There is a sad and frustrating repetitiveness to my cartoons about Gaza, but still I think it's important to keep drawing them, just as it's important to keep sharing the images from Gaza.

Today's cartoon for Trouw: trouw.nl/cartoons/tjeerd-royaa

#Gaza #Netanyahu #Israel #redline

Cartoon showing Netanyahu dressed as a king with crown and sceptre, wearing the Israel flag as a mantle. He is walking on a red carpet, which is actually a stream of blood left behind by the Grim Reaper walking in front of him. The red, bloody, carpet crosses several red lines that have been painted by a UN official, who is busy painting yet another one.
