Several airlines have made history by employing mother-daughter pilot duos. They are:

The Apple and iOS community lost one of the truly good ones recently.

Alex Hay, the developer of Toolbox Pro for Shortcuts, passed away last Saturday after a battle with cancer. He was 36.

The news left me devastated. With his family's blessing, we've decided to dedicate @AutomationApril to his memory. We'll be making donations to two cancer charities in his name; we encourage those who were fans of his work to do the same.

Alex was pure talent. We'll miss you.

For my new Plugged In newsletter, I wrote about why Amazon’s Amazon Go stores (which are downsizing and, in San Francisco, disappearing altogether) have never lived up to their potential. Despite that, I went to the one near my office about 200 times! fastcompany.com/90868702/amazo

There are many reasons to loathe Amazon but closing DPReview with no plan for archival is now on my top 5 list. If you're not a photographer it might sound like a big deal but that site is the most comprehensive & informative collection of camera knowledge that exists in addition to being a still-thriving community. Every time I get new gear I literally spend hours on it researching. This is such a gut punch for anyone who needs to understand their equipment.

Amazon has plans to lay off at least 27,000 workers this year, including 9,000 that were announced in an internal email Monday morning. One unexpected casualty: Digital Photography Review, also known as DPReview, is losing its entire editorial staff, and the site will stop publishing on April 10.The announcement post, written by DPReview General Manager Scott Everett, says that new pieces will continue to be posted through April 10, and "the site will be locked" afterward. It's unclear what will happen to the site's content afterward—the post promises only that the site's articles "will be available in read-only mode for a limited period afterwards." Any photos and text that readers have uploaded to their accounts can be requested and downloaded until April 6, "after which we will not be able to complete the request."

Today is the International Day of Forests. On this day we like to highlight "Sounds of the Forest" as an interesting project (we would love to see for gardens as well):

"We are collecting the #sounds of #woodlands and #forests from all around the world, creating a growing soundmap bringing together aural tones and textures from the world’s woodlands.

The sounds form an #OpenSource library, to be used by anyone to listen to and create from."

A couple folks asked why I share bios & links about women & underrepresented groups in science instead of “everyone.”

Well, we already hear a lot about famous men like Einstein & Darwin. But there are so many wonderful stories of other amazing individuals who have made significant contributions in & beyond but haven’t been celebrated as widely.

And when we don’t see ourselves in the of STEM, we may not recognize we are capable of great achievements too.

Throwback to one of the wildest (and luckiest) shots I've ever taken.

On approach into London several years back, the position of the sun & clouds created a halo around our plane's shadow as the sun highlighted the Tower Bridge. I'm still kicking myself for using my iPhone instead of my good camera, but I didn't expect the clouds to part. Lesson learned! 😒 😆

#Travel #TravelPhotography #London #WindowSeat #Photography #Rainbow #Thames #TowerBridge #UK #Throwback #ThrowbackThursday

Taken from my window seat as the plane approaches London, clouds part enough for sun to shine on the Thames and highlight both the Tower Bridge and The Tower of London. To the right of the frame you can see the shadow of the jetliner as it soars above the city, and it has a rainbow halo surrounding it as the sun shines from behind it and through clouds.
