It makes a difference which words we use: e.g. instead of talking about ‘air travel’, say ‘air traffic’; while the word ‘travel’ evokes images of beaches, the sea and piña coladas, ‘traffic’ tends to make us think of traffic jams and aircraft noise.

In case you haven't been paying attention to what's going on up there, the Arctic "heatwave" continues, with today about 3σ above the 1979-2000 baseline. That's 5.21°C (9.4°F) above average for the entire Arctic region. This is record Arctic heat for this date.

An easy prediction: 2023 is going to be hot.

There are positive and negative aspects to having an equivalent to quote tweets on Mastodon. I would think that the problems could be largely prevented if people receive notification when their post is Tweeted, and have the option to remove it.

Can we also take a moment to note that "woke", as used here, was originally a Black American term for being aware of systemic racism, and in just a few years, the US right turned it into a totally content-free sneer? And the entire English-speaking media basically just ran with it, to the extent that you now hear it used in _Finnish_?

Because that's white supremacy for you. Criticism, even awareness, of the racist power structure will not be tolerated.
