Rather than just highlighting dire care for learning disabled and autistic people, I'm going to do an advent calendar, well advent hashtag #CQCAdvent in which I'll share a quote daily and link to a service that CQC have rated outstanding in the last two years.
There aren't enough to rely just on this year (only 17 so far - they're all listed here https://www.georgejulian.co.uk/curated-topics/cqc-outstanding-care-for-learning-disabled-and-autistic-people/)
Please boost and follow the hashtag for some snippets of excellence #LearningDisability #Autism #HumanRights
Corporate profits hit a record high of $2.1 trillion last quarter.
Folks, corporate greed is driving inflation, not workers asking for better wages.
For those in the United States:
988 is a new phone number that recently went live to help people get help in a mental health crisis. Similar to 911, this line is dedicated for anyone in need of mental health assistance of any kind. It's 988.
Please boost to spread the news. Save someone's life.

@Jradin @CouragePhD @academicchatter This really resonates with me. I feel like even with a supportive advisor and department, it's difficult to come out unscathed. For me, a lot of the stress has come from my funding running out and not having the option to extend it. There are so many aspects to the PhD that can put you under strain. As I drag myself across the finish line, I keep trying to tap into the excitement I felt as a first year - getting accepted is an amazing feeling!
I have been visiting McGill University in Montreal this semester. No matter where in the world I go, there is one thing about Denmark that seems to always blow people's minds:
Higher education is not only free — you get paid to study. At the university level, #students receive a monthly stipend of around 900 USD. It might be the single one thing about my home country I am most excited about.
Oh, also, all #phd candidates are salaried employees. 🤷

@TheAutisticTooter That's really interesting. Reciprocity is often a component of conceptualisations of social inclusion and belonging. People feel like they belong when they are able to give as well as receive. I think conceptualisations of reciprocity do need to change, however, to include exchanges that may not be of the same type or appear equal. Not everyone has the same access to resources or can be expected to give in the same way.

@matthewthompson @phdstudents Running has always been my go to. Long walks are nice too - anything to get me outdoors and get me moving. And chatting to friends and family about non-PhD related things is great!
Having #ADHD is making it a wee bit challenging to find all my #disabled and #neurodivergent and #astronomy and #bipolar twitter fam again 😬
So if you see this and fit any of those hashtags, I'd love to connect with you on here 💜
@NurseMich @phdstudents @phdlife IPA is great for your questions, but it can be tricky to use with focus groups. In the past, I've found the book Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design by Creswell and Poth (2017) helpful when trying to decide on a design.
@NurseMich @phdstudents @phdlife My advice would be not to create on overly complex design for your PhD studies. Also, budget more time for analysis than you think you might need. Do you already have a design or methods in mind?
Apparently work-from-home has dimmed the lights on so many offices at night that slightly more stars are now visible in the evening sky: https://www.theverge.com/2022/5/17/23093996/uk-night-sky-stargazing-light-pollution
One does not encounter a lot of silver linings from a global pandemic, so I’ll take it
@naomilawsonjacobs Thanks for the encouragement! I think so often people think they're not where they should be if they aren't headed for graduation after three years. I'm now in my final three months, so the end is in sight!

I came across this yesterday, and it made me think about my many (failed) attempts at social media. Agree/disagree? Any thoughts?
