Born in Britain. Resident (1990~) of Japan where I teach English.

Rode my bicycle through thirteen countries back in the late 80’s.
Photography has been my passion for over forty years. I’ll share some favorites here. Mostly from nature or scenes without identifiable people. Keep it safe.

Daft jokes or play on words for my own amusement. Whatever catches my eye.

@futurebird
I fear that progressive mayors try, and quickly learn that the police will riot, doom their mayoralties, and possibly also kill their constituents if they properly rein them in, so they develop a "balanced" approach that refrains from actually addressing the root problem that some of those who work forces are the same that burn crosses.

That, in the end, is what empathy is, and what non-violence depends on: our ability to find the "like-me" in others, even tho it might not be on the surface.

I could tell you that it's easy. I lie all the time, frankly, but not on quite this grand a scale.

No. It is not easy. It is hard as fuck. For me, it is both the hardest possible thing to do and the most important possible thing to do.

I fail all the time at it.

I'm betting that's just one more way we're more alike than different. :)

In 2016 MN Police killed a Black man named Philando Castile despite him calmly disclosing he had a legal & registered firearm.

Yesterday MN Police released a white woman named Jenny Boelter despite her car full of cash, firearms, & passports hours after her husband mass murdered people & was on the run from police.

This injustice is what systemic white supremacy enables.

SuperDuper update:

We've completed initial compatibility testing, and we can successfully generate a bootable backup under Tahoe.

We have some UI issues to work through (weird layout problems and exceptions in normal, system-generated alert panels, yay), but hope to have a Tahoe-compatible beta shortly.

Common Spotted Orchid (I think)

#bloomscrolling #wildflowers #orchid #wildlife

This is a close-up of an orchid with delicate, densely arranged blossoms. The petals are predominantly white, adorned with intricate purple markings, creating a striking contrast. The tall, cylindrical shape of the flower adds to its elegance, standing out against the soft, blurred green background

It's been a great here on Mastodon. People here seem to love wildlife and birds.

Q: What is one of your favourite birds and why? (is it the beauty of its colours and shape, maybe it's their song or maybe you've noticed a particular bird's personality).

Anyway, let me know by replying (feel free to include/not include a photo).

EDIT: .
Having being doing this now for a few years, I now have a true fave! The Northern Gannet.

#WhatsYourFaveBird #birds #nature #NaturePhotography #Wildlife

The northern gannet (Morus bassanus) is a striking seabird known for its elegant appearance and spectacular hunting technique. With a wingspan that can reach nearly two meters (over six feet), it glides effortlessly over coastal waters. Its plumage is predominantly white, accented by black-tipped wings and a soft golden hue on its head and neck during the breeding season.

Northern gannets are famous for their high-speed dives, plunging into the ocean from heights of up to 30 meters (100 feet) to catch fish. They streamline their bodies just before impact, reducing drag and minimizing injury. They also have special adaptations, such as air sacs in their face and chest to cushion the blow and protect them from the force of entry.

These birds breed in large, noisy colonies on rocky cliffs and islands around the North Atlantic.
