After a successful @ARISS_Intl contact with KJ5GEW, the radio team wanted to encourage our school champion to keep going on his ham radio journey. So we got him a copy of @kb6nu's No Nonsense Tech exam study guide! Also threw in a spare Baofeng tribander.

Since we all signed the book for him, he can't just give it away. Plus he has a deadline now. 😄

I finally released the v2.2 software for CubeSatSim, the AMSAT CubeSat Simulator. This release was way too much work. It had too many bug fixes and new features. I need to push releases more frequently, as testing took forever and I kept finding bugs.

I’m very happy with the release. Combined with having more CubeSatSim Lites available, it is an important step for the project!

What a blast to make contact with the ISS despite the historic medical evacuation of Crew 11 and snow and ice storms on either side of today.

Chris Williams was a total pro on his first school contact. He was enthusiastic and said it made him think about his own kids.

Experiment zur Artemis-II-Mission mit Unterstützung von Funkamateuren

Im Rahmen der bevorstehenden Artemis-II-Mission hatte die NASA Institutionen und Ehrenamtliche aufgerufen, sich mit ihren Antennensystemen an einem Experiment zur Erfassung von Einweg-Dopplermessungen der Orion-Kapsel in der Erdumlaufbahn und im cislunaren Raum teilzunehmen. Das Space Communications and Navigation Program (SCaN) der NASA hat nun die Liste der ausgewählten Bodenstationen veröffentlicht. Neben diversen Universitäten und kommerziellen Satelliten-Bodenstationen werden auch mehrere Amateurfunkvereinigungen mit ihren Antennen beteiligt sein.
So sind u.a. die AMSAT-DL mit ihrer Antenne in Bochum und die AMSAT Argentinia beteiligt, aber auch das ARISS „Amateur Radio Exploration (AREX) Ground Station Consortium“, das fünf weitere Teams enthält. Darunter finden sich das Amateurfunk-Teams in Goonhilly (England), USC Kalifornien, ein deutsches Team um Matthias Bopp, DD1US, und ein polnisches Team um Tomasz Blazej, SP5POT, sowie ein Team in Dayton/Ohio.

Die Teams bereiten sich bereits auf den ersten Einsatz vor, denn der Start der Orion-Kapsel zu ihrer 10-tägigen Mission ist ab dem 6. Februar 2026 zu erwarten. Artemis II ist ein geplanter bemannter Mondflug der NASA in Zusammenarbeit mit der europäischen und der kanadischen Weltraumagentur (ESA und CSA). Auf diesem Flug sollen vier Astronauten in einem Orion-Raumschiff den Mond umrunden. Die Mission wäre der erste bemannte Mondflug seit Apollo 17 im Jahr 1972.

Das aus dem ARISS-Umfeld entstandene AREX-Projekt beschäftigt sich seit mehreren Jahren mit der Entwicklung, Installation und Betrieb von Amateurfunk auf zukünftigen astronautischen Raumfahrtzeugen internationaler Agenturen und Industriekonsortien außerhalb der Erdumlaufbahn.
