The blast ionized Earth’s atmosphere, causing shortwave radio blackouts across the Americas. Even bigger: a full-halo CME with an Earth-directed punch. if the forecast holds, we’ve got a chance to see the aurora tonight, peak activity is expected around 10PM. So if you’ve got a camera (or just a sense of wonder), head somewhere dark and away from light pollution. You won’t regret it.
And if you’re looking for something meaningful to do while waiting for the sky to light up - come join us today at noon. I’m helping organize an event with the Ukrainian American Women’s League and the Ukrainian Community Center to raise awareness about the abduction of Ukrainian children. It’s happening at 505 4th St NE, Minneapolis, MN (between St. Constantine & St. Michael churches). You don’t have to be Ukrainian to care. You just have to be human.

I did expect to see the #aurora one day in Scotland, but I did not expected it would be in the Borders or that it would be so spectacular, it filled half the sky. Colours in the image are exaggerated, but all these colours were visible without enhancement. #auroraborealis #AuroraWatch
