🌍🌏 Common starling (Sturnus vulgaris)

The common starling is a medium-sized bird, appearing black with a glossy green and purple iridescence up close. In winter, they are covered in bright white spots. Juveniles are grey-brown.

They are widely distributed across Eurasia, and introduced in North America, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, thriving in urban, suburban, and agricultural areas.

Common starlings are highly gregarious and noisy. They forage on the ground for insects and fruit. Famous for their aerial "murmurations"—large, coordinated flocks performing intricate displays at dusk—they are also known for mimicking other bird calls and squabbling at feeders. 2.5 Flash (Edited)

In der Paarungszeit verfärben sich die Unterschnäbel der Stare am Ansatz, also nahe am Kopf. Beim Männchen werden sie hellblau und bei Weibchen rosa. Das bedeutet, dass auf dem Foto ein Männchen zu sehen ist.

Une petite dizaine d’étourneaux sansonnets posée sur un toit de tuiles de type provençal, sur fond de ciel bleu. On aperçoit un morceau de cheminée sur la droite de l’image.

Des de fa unes setmanes volen els estols d'estornells sobre la Mata de Fang de l'Albufera. No sé si són conscients que en hivern és un lloc plagat d'arpelles que de tant en tant se les veu perseguint-los. Tampoc és estranya la presència d'alguna àguila calçada.
