Intel Core i9-12900K Selective Short Circuit Test. This is a section of 5mm grid paper, upon which I have mapped the conductivity of the ATX_12V_n sockets to a subsection of the LGA1700 socket. The idea I had was to show, with no more evidence and logic than this, that the CPU was definitely at fault. I have done this here by discerning which socket pins map to the 12V supply, and which to ground, and then testing the chip to see if these are bridged with a short circuit. In the mirrored diagrams of socket and chip segment, with black crosses for ground, red crosses for power, and purple crosses for conductivity between outlined zones delineated by these two, it is quite obvious (to an engineer) that the chip is faulty. The result of the test is marked as FAILED in red, and the conclusion states this. Fun fact for those reading this, is that one of the pattern segments looks like the outline of half a monkey head.The offender's face. The top side of the Intel Core i9 CPU. Although the PCB of the chip is a lovely deep, dark green, it is mostly obscured by the chip's own heatsink/heat-transfer plate, which is, as the base-board, a portrait-oriented rectangle. It has rounded corners, however, and a stepped bevel, which the PCB does not. It sits in from the edge of the PCB by an almost uniform 3mm. From its left and right midsection, two "ears", of a similar style and curvature, extrude, to bear the force of the LGA socket bracket. Marks from its usage can be seen on these extrusions. The board section has patches of metal dots in little grids here and there, as well as a few top-mounted SMD components. It is sitting neatly aligned on 5mm grid paper. I will spare you the few lines of numbers and letters inscribed on the heatsink surface in four neat lines. A triangle/arrow is also inscribed in the bottom left corner.The underside of the chip. A deep green PCB with shiny golden pads. There are about 1700 of them, and if you look closely, you can see patterns in the almost uniform rows and columns surrounding the center rectangular island of capacitors and resistors. The patterns correspond to the LGA1700 socket specification for power, control, and data transfer. The section I analysed is at the top, centre.
