I think this is the *worst* model diagnostics I've ever seen. I had to laugh out loud when I saw it. What a way to start a friday.
ISIMIP workshop in May 5–9 in Potsdam, Germany:
“The workshop, while serving as the main annual ISIMIP workshop, will be an activity as part of the Horizon Europe project OptimESM, and an excellent opportunity to connect the climate and climate impact modelling activities with regard to potential inputs to the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (AR7).”

James Grace just published¹ an interesting piece on causal inquiry in ecology. He provides a framework for drawing together different strands of evidence: from statistics, experiments, and mechanisms.
I think this kind of epistemic thinking is just what ecology needs.

My Viewpoint article is online: “Model-based experiments as epistemic evidence in paleoecology”

I condensed some of my learnings from my PhD project: the things I would have liked to be told when starting my project. Oh well… :)
Excellent blog post by Nick Clark showing how to work with state-space vector autoregressive models for non-Gaussian time-series, or in less technical terms - most ecological time-series. So if you model ecological time-series definitely go give it a read:

Greetings! I am an early-career ecological modeler, working with both mechanistic and Bayesian models. I am passionate about scientific best practices, coding, reproducibility, uncertainty quantification, and epistemology. So far, my research has been around large herbivores, Pleistocene megafauna, paleo-climatology, and Neolithic farming.

Oh, and by the way: after the #conference is before the #conference!
I hope to see you all at the #ECEM23 next year in Leipzig! The call for sessions is open until Jan 10. Please let me know in case you are interested in organising something together!

And another very interesting #network poster! This one shows that higher horizontal #diversity of #autotrophs does not necessarily lead to higher #FunctionalDiversity!
Thanks @lawojcik, it was nice to chat with you!
