The fieldfares are back in town, and soon they'll start nesting. They have 4-6 eggs per clutch, and some may even have two clutches per season.

The young fledge around two weeks old, and the parents stop feeding when they're a month old. So I *think* the juvenile in these pictures (from last year in July) is between 2 and 4 weeks of age.

They get up to 130gr with a wingspan of up to 42cm, making them among the largest thrushes in Norway.

The juvie is having its wings and beak spread open, seemingly very enthusiastic for the meal. Next to the picture is the text. Diet: Worms, insects, spiders, berries, and fruits. Habitat: Forests, scrubs, fields, orchards, parks, mountains. 4-6 eggs per clutch. The text also has symbols inspired by Wingspan (the game).Adult fieldfare feeding a fledged chick between long green grass. The adult has a small insect in its beak, and is placing it very carefully in the wide open beak of the juvenile, who's having its wings spread out.

As a beginning birdwatcher I was surprised to see a fieldfare in Karelia in winter. But it turned out that sometimes they stay “at home”. Look at that beauty! 🥰

We have a #fieldfare nesting in a birch in our yard. Just begun laying eggs, it seems.

Lots of and about.
Also a first encounter with @NearbyWild who has nice video of fieldfare drinking from puddles just before we met. youtu.be/nbVTaTHeZCo?si=f1qK7D

Redwing in flight (left to right) against clear blue sky.
Thrush family but smaller than a song thrush and with distinctive pale stripe above eye. Orange/red patch below wing not too evident in this birdFieldfare (thrush family) in upper branches of tree (ash I think) with blue sky behind. Pale chest with brown speckles on upper part, and grey head.
