#FlyIn

2025-05-25

My EAA Chapter had a very successful first Fly Out to Portage for their Fly In (C47). It was the busiest non-towered traffic pattern I've ever been in, with the added challenge that we were landing 36 and you really only could back taxi. So we'd pile up four aircraft at the end and taxi back in formation.

Really cool day, I'm glad some of my chapter members joined me so I didn't feel like a dork having a one man fly out. I'm sad I had to rent an aircraft but grateful I had a backup option when mine went down for maintenance.

Giant rotating pancake griddle where there is a nonstop supply of pancakes for the non-stop crowd.A mostly bare aluminum Ercoupe aircraft with the distinctive H tail.A small single seat experimental Sonex aircraft in red and white colors parked on the flight line.I am unsure the aircraft, it looks similar to various WWII airframes and specifically the T-6. It is a dark grey with a white arrow bolt from back to front.

Arranging a virtual fly-in event for my community tomorrow, first one of its kind ^_^

Put together some pre-made flight plans to help people dropping in, though hoping people will make up their own flight plans as well. This is the easy variant of the two I made, simple route but it can still be easy to go amiss so will be fun to see what kind of adventures people will have :)

(The map markings are “upside down” because you hold the map oriented to the direction you’re going)

DH87B Hornet Moth. This beautiful biplane was built during the 'golden age' of the biplane, in 1936. De Havilland's were noted for their elegant designs and the Hornet Moth, despite having a small aerodynamic problem early on, went on to be a fine 'tourer'. #deHavilland #aircraft #avgeek #biplane #England #aviation #DH87B #HornetMoth #flyin #event

North American AT-6A. The North American T-6 Texan sported a series of variants, including several which were armed. Indeed, armed T-6s were used in the Korean War to mark ground targets for higher performance Allied fighter-bombers. Auster AOP.6 This Auster was a post-war development of the wartime Lycoming-engined AOP.5 (AOP standing for Air Observation Post, outlining its role as an artillery observation platform). This example, seen at a fly-in, is finished as an aircraft of the RCAF, the Royal Canadian Air Force. The yellow scheme was intended to make it stand out against a snowy landscape in the event of a forced landing. The cartoon character painted on the nose (an example of 'nose art') is that of the dastardly 'Captain A.R.P. Reilly-Ffoull' of Arentwee Hall, from the British cartoon strip, 'Just Jake', drawn by Bernard Graddon and published in the Daily Mirror from 1938 to 1952. #Auster #AirObservationPost #AOP #DailyMirror #RCAF #RoyalCanadianAirForce #Lycoming #forcedlanding #aviation #flyin #noseart #cartoon #cartooncharacter #Reilly-Ffoull #JustJake #Canada #history #technology #flying #BernardGraddon #cartoonstrip #photography #aircraft #artillery #avgeek #aviationphotography #flight #newspaper
