Yellow text aligned in the shape of a rectangle says, 'Axel The Download Accelerator' next to a speedometer that goes from yellow to red with a flame on the far right side and a needle pointing to almost maximum acceleration.

For this week's #FOSSFriday I want to give a shout out to the TUI Git tool "tig".

Been using it for years and is really convenient for quickly reading through the Git history.

@Gina @LimeSurvey

This week's #FOSSFriday project I want to share is Wails:

github.com/wailsapp/wails

Instead of using bloated Electron, you can write desktop applications with #GoLang for the backend and Web technologies of your choice for the frontend!

@Gina I’m so curious about the backstory to your question about villain-arcs and big boat Larry licensing. But in the interim, I’ll just say Hooray for postgresql.org/community/ #fossfriday

For this week's #FOSSFriday I'd like to share two excellent feedback tools, namely;

Fider: fider.io/ and a special mention to our friends at @LimeSurvey

What #FOSS project do you want people to know about?

For #FOSSfriday I would just like to add that, while I am not a programmer, I picked this instance when I first signed up because I felt like it was the most philosophically aligned with the way I see the world.

It always seemed strategically untenable to devolve all of our computing needs to giant private corporations. It also seemed that developing software for the commons was a quiet act of revolution.

So – I salute all of you!

#fossfriday question: best opensource alternative to GitHub? Extra gratitude for municipal government engagement and/org a well set up list of issues/volunteer opportunities!

@Gina

Let's make #FOSSfriday a weekly thing!

I'm currently excited about #OSMAnd which is an #OpenStreetMap Android app that is great for #bicycling navigation - way better than let's say Google Maps!

@Gina

Hyprland - hypr.land

It looks to be a really awesome choice for great UX/DX on laptops. So quite excitet, even though it will be really challenging due to all the configuration in files needed to do.

Say it's #FOSSfriday today, what's a #FOSS project that you're currently excited about?

My #FOSSFriday for this week is diffpdf. It's a super-simple tool for comparing two PDFs that you can install from the Ubuntu archives. Really handy for comparing changes in contracts, terms etc. I've tried a few and it was the best, but it does now look discontinued. If you've found a better one, please let me know!

Well this is a nice way to go into the weekend, someone offering to help me maintain a #Drupal module. ☺️

OpenNutriTracker uses data from Open Food Facts (world.openfoodfacts.org/), which seems to be a giant, Wikipedia-like data of all food information that I had never heard of before. As a bonus #FOSSFriday, it also has a great open source Android app to add any missing products.

I'm not sure what the crossover is between Free and open source software fans and people who track macros/protein/calories, but in case there is any, my #FOSSFriday for today is OpenNutriTracker (github.com/simonoppowa/OpenNut). OpenNutriTracker is a great, simple app that lets you scan what you are eating and see what the total calories, protein etc come to over the day. Most #Fitness apps are full of ads or have really expensive subscriptions, so this is great and keeps data private.

#fossfriday a great and useful FOSS app

#fairemail, a nice and full featured email android app. It's privacy-minded with no-picture, no-server-content defaults. Mails are nice to read with default clean reformatting. Plenty of options to customize. The dev has already wrote a lot of help.

The app is free. Some "pro" features unlocked with a little money - worth it !

The dev is Marcel Bokhorst, website email.faircode.eu/, and repo at github.com/M66B/FairEmail and #fdroid #foss #email #app

My #FOSSFriday this week is FUTO keyboard for Android. It is called "pre-alpha", but I'm using it my main keyboard in place of AnySoftKeyboard already and loving it. The built-in offline voice to text is brilliant.

Today's #FossFriday is a tiny new open source project of my very own: Turn the Tables!

TtT aims to educate tech workers about their rights to organize & empower them to take action, via tabling at tech confs. More here: github.com/shaunagm/turn-the-t

We got a last-minute invite to table at PyCon next week, so I could very much use help from anyone going to Pittsburgh for PyCon (or who lives in PGH already). I'm also taking recommendations for zines/pamphlets and other materials to have at the table.

I'm heading out for a #WashingtonSpirit game shortly, so today's #FossFriday shout out is a thematic one: a #woso open source project called nwslR!

github.com/nwslR/nwslR

nwslR is an R package created and maintained by my friend Arielle. It contains data AND analysis functionality for the #NWSL. I have not actually ever used it because I am more of a Python person but honestly maybe this is the excuse I need to brush up on my R skills.

Keeping it short so I don't miss my train. Go Spirit!

My #FOSSFriday for this week is Wine (winehq.org/). An incredible project running since 1993, Wine is the foundation on which Proton and CrossOver are built and is how Windows software/games run on Linux. I used to be amazed if I managed to make anything work, but now it is so good I just expect most games to work in Proton out of the box. We've reached my personal tipping point that I don't have any games left that are worth rebooting into Windows to play natively.
