GMK NucBox K11 mini PC features Ryzen 9 8945HS, OCuLink, 2.5 GbE LAN, dual-fans, and RGB lighting

The GMK NucBox K11 is a 5.2″ x 5″ x 2.3″ desktop computer with an unusual design feature: a clear panel on the top of the case that reveals a large fan with RGB lighting effects. But while the RGB LED lights are purely for looks, the fan is one of two inside the computer that are designed to let the included AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS processor run at up to 70 watts without difficulty.

Available now from the GMK website for $480 and up, the NucBox K11 also features support for up to 96GB of RAM, up to two SSDs, and a decent set of ports that lets you connect up to four displays, an external graphics dock, and more.

Inside the case there are two SODIMM slots, each with support for up to 48GB of DDR5-5600 memory and two M.2 2280 slots, each with support for PCIe NVMe storage. In addition to the fan on top of the case, there’s a heat sink and a second fan with a copper base on the bottom. These work to draw air up from the bottom of the computer and push it through the system and then out through the vents in the sides.

Ports include:

  • 1 x OCuLink (64 Gbps)
  • 2 x USB4 Type-C (40 Gbps)
  • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)
  • 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A (480 Mbps)
  • 1 x DisplayPort 2.1
  • 1 x HDMI 2.1
  • 2 x 2.5 GbE LAN (Intel i226-V)
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio

Both of the USB4 ports support power, data, and video, so you can connect as many as four 4K displays when you use both of those ports along with the DisplayPort and HDMI ports.

The computer’s Ryzen 9 8945HS processor features 8 AMD Zen 4 CPU cores and Radeon 780M integrated graphics with 12 RDNA 3 GPU cores, and GMK says the system is configured to allow the processor to run a 35 watts (silent mode), 54 watts (balanced mode), or 65 to 70 watts (performance mode).

System76 Pangolin Linux Laptop now available with Ryzen 9 8945HS and up to 96GB RAM

The System76 Pangolin is a thin, light, and powerful laptop with a big screen, an AMD processor, and a choice of GNU/Linux distributions including Ubuntu and Pop!_OS. Linux PC company System76 has been selling versions of the Pangolin laptop since 2020, and this week the company introduced a new model with an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS Hawk Point processor and support for up to 96GB of RAM and up to 16TB of storage.

It’s available for purchase now with prices starting at $1299 for a 16GB/500GB configuration.

Earlier this year System76 released a version of the Pangolin laptop with a Ryzen 7 7840U processor, a 16.1 inch display, and 32GB of LPDDR5 memory.

The new model brings a number of improvements. It has a higher-power processor, a higher-resolution display with a faster refresh rate, user-upgradeable memory, a better camera, and a slightly lighter weight. But it’s also a downgrade in at least one area – the new model has a smaller battery than its predecessor. It also has a higher starting price.

AYANEO 3 handheld gaming PC features module controllers and up to Ryzen AI 9 HX 370

The AYANEO 3 is an upcoming handheld gaming PC with a 7 inch display that looks a lot like previous-generation devices from AYANEO at first glance. But this all-new model has a few significant upgrades.

First, it will be available in several configurations, including entry-level models with 7 inch IPS LCD displays and AMD Ryzen 7 8840U “Hawk Point” processors and others with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” chips and OLED screens. And second? The AYANEO 3 is the first handheld gaming PC with a modular controller design that lets you pop out and rearrange the analog sticks, D-Pad, and action buttons. AYANEO plans to launch an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign in late January, and you can sign up now to be notified when the campaign goes live.

AYANEO began promoting the upcoming handheld in November, and has released additional details a few time since then. The latest update provides a look at the modular controllers.

The company says the AYANEO 3 has a “Magic Module” system that lets you pop out, rearrange, and replace the controllers. They  connect to the handheld with a set of pogo pins, and they’re held in place magnetically. There’s a motorized system that lets you unlock a module at the press of a button.

You can even flip them around: prefer the analog stick below the D-Pad? Just unlock and eject the left module, flip it around, and re-insert it.

The design also lets you choose from different modules depending on the buttons, layout, and functions you want. A promo video shows what looks like AYANEO will offer at least 6 different modules, and AYANEO says 56 layout combinations will be available, including modules with touchpads, extra action buttons, and more.

It’s unclear how much they’ll cost, and whether you’ll be able to choose your modules when purchasing an AYANEO 3 or if it will ship with a default set while additional modules are sold separately.

In  terms of processing power, the entry-level model comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U chip, which is a pretty decent option for mobile gaming: its CPU and graphics features are similar to those of the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, but the 8840U also has an NPU with up to 16 TOPS of on-device AI performance.

But folks who want to up their game will  also be able to opt for a newer, higher-performance Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. While that chip  may gets its name from the higher-performance NPU (with up to 50 TOPS), but it also brings updated CPU and graphics architecture and more CPU and GPU cores, which should bring a significant boost for gaming and other tasks.

AYANEO hasn’t yet provided information about the screen resolution, memory, storage, or some other important details (like how much the AYENEO 3 will cost or when it will be available for purchase).

But while the physical design is reminiscent of the AYANEO 2, the new model features a few significant updates including front-facing speakers for better audio and an updated button system that includes trigger locks and two back buttons.

Pictures also show a set of ports that appears to include USB Type-C and OCuLink connectors, as well as a microSD card reader.

And in a video released on November 22, the company revealed that the AYANEO 3 will be the company’s first device with a new “magnetic suspension motor” for enhanced vibration feedback and support for swapping the action buttons so you can arrange the X, Y, A, and B buttons as you see fit.

AYANEO AM02 game console-like mini PC gets a Ryzen 7 8845HS spec bump

The AYANEO AM02 is a small desktop computer with a design that’s heavily inspired by vintage Nintendo game consoles. But under the hood it’s a fully modern computer – Ian was impressed with the performance of the model he reviewed earlier this year, if a bit underwhelmed by the door flap that covers the front ports.

Now AYANEO has given the AM02 a modest update: while the mini PC had […]

After reading some theories about the HX 370 price situation, these are my conclusions about why they’re being sold at 2x the price of :

- Larger die, less units per wafer
- TSMC N4P high cost and low allocation
- Top-tier SoC (efficiency wise)
- Focus on datacenter chip allocation
- First to market

These are perfect reasons to sell higher, double, than the prior generation.

Who knows if or next wave pushes their price down or not.

2024-09-21

The joke? The price: $1,000.

For that kind of money you can build a desktop PC with an RTX that will blow it off the water the moment you turn it on.

This confirms that AMD is selling at double the price of the previous , at least for now.

I can’t even fathom this price for , either.
