Toiminut hyvin. Olen tehnyt töitä Intelin vähävirtasella prossulla omia juttuja armilla.

Eroa huomaa aika selvästi ilman virtatöpseliä. Armi säilyy nopeana ilmankin ja akkukesto hyvä. Inttelillä akkukesto myös hyvä, vaikka selvästi huonompi. Lisäksi tahnaa paljon enemmän. Virta hallintaa säätämällä saa nopeammaksi, mutta samalla häviää akkukestosta paljon

@oranki Pieni #linuxonarm #snapdragonxelite koonti:

Yoga Slim 7x + Ubuntu concept 25.04 + 6.15.0-rc6-jg-3-qcom-x1e kernel.

Semiaktivisessa vapaa-ajankäytössä. Itselle tärkeät asiat toimii hyvin ja ulkoisen näytön käyttö jokseenkin ok.

Hyvää:
- Teho
- Akkukesto
- Toimii ok

Toimii jotenkin:
- Usb DP-alt mode. Kuva usb-c-töpselistä. Virkistystaajuuden vaihtaminen kaataa koneen/estää näytön toiminan.
- Suspend syö akkua aika paljon.

Ei toimi:
- Koneen kaijuttimet. BT kuulokkeet toimii
- Webcam

En tiedä onko vika gnomessa vai jossain muualla. Pitänee testata vaikka swaylla. Josko onnistuisi paremmin.

Mut tätä voi käyttää osana tätä minun työasemaa. Selvää edistystä.

Ubuntu will improve ARM64 support

Ubuntu had conducted a very interesting test for the ARM64 processor architecture support on a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite machine during the development of Ubuntu 24.10. It was a huge success, seeing as the ARM64 laptops and desktops are being more popular in today’s computer stores, alongside the existing ARM64 machines.

As Ubuntu 25.04 Plucky Puffin gets closer to the stable release, the Ubuntu team is considering improving support for the ARM64 machines, especially those that use the Snapdragon X Elite processors. The ubuntu-x1e-settings meta-package, which is necessary for such computers, has been promoted to the main repository. At the same time, the qcom-firmware-extract package, which is necessary for Qualcomm machines and is a script that provides a way to extract Qualcomm firmware files from the Windows partition and to create a Debian package for a specific machine, has been uploaded to the universe repository. The script currently provides support for the following Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite machines, with more machines to be added to the list:

  • Acer Swift 14 AI (SF14-11)
  • ASUS Vivobook S 15
  • Dell XPS 13 9345
  • HP Omnibook X 14
  • Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6
  • Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x
  • Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 (13.8 inch)
  • Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge

The Linux kernel package and the Ubuntu installer will be updated to support such machines to make sure that they run Ubuntu without any problems. This is going to be done starting from 25.04 to make sure that the next LTS, which will be released in the next April, runs flawlessly on such machines.

Alongside that, the Ubuntu team plans to improve support for all ARM64 machines by distributing a single working Ubuntu ISO file for ARM64 systems and by eliminating device-specific installers to make installing Ubuntu on such systems easier than never before. This will be a single official Ubuntu image that works on all the platforms, be it an Ampere powered workstation, a Snapdragon X Elite laptop, an ARM64 server, or in a virtual machine on your Apple Silicon Mac.

The Raspberry Pi machines will also experience improved system compatibility by changing the camera stack to work with such machines. The new PiSP driver has been added to the camera stack to make sure that the Raspberry Pi machines be able to use the camera on Ubuntu, in addition to the rpicam-apps (userspace apps), picamera2 (Python API for camera), and their dependencies. This allows for a smooth migration from the original OS, which is Raspberry Pi OS.

However, the AI features for the official AI camera that uses the Sony IMX500 imaging sensor are not available in this version of Ubuntu due to licensing concerns, but the Ubuntu team will be working on it to resolve the licensing issues so that Raspberry Pi machines will be able to use the AI features for such cameras outside the original OS.

GEEKOM QS1 is the first mini PC with a Snapdragon X Elite processor

Most major PC makers have released laptops with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X processors in the last half year or so. But so far we haven’t seen any desktop computers with the chips unless you count the Snapdragon Dev Kit which was discontinued before it was even made widely available.

And that makes the GEEKOM QS1 the first real desktop computer powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon X series processor. Details about GEEKOM’s upcoming mini PC started to make the rounds last year, but CES 2025 is the official coming out party for this little desktop computer with a Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-80-100) processor.

That chip features 12 Oryon CPU cores with support for single and dual-core speeds up to 4 GHz or multi-core speeds up to 3.4 GHz, a 3.8 TFLOPS GPU, and a 45 TOPS NPU for on-device AI.

The computer pairs that processor with up to 64GB of LPDDR5-8400 memory and the system features support for up to two SSDs:

  • 1 x M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4×4
  • 1 x M.2 2242 PCIe Gen 4×2

Other features include a fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button, support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, and four digital microphones built into the computer.

Ports include:

  • 1 x USB4
  • 3 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A
  • 1 x HDMI 2.0
  • 1 x 2.5 Gb Ethernet
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio
  • 1 x SD card reader

The spec sheet is a little contradictory when it comes to the computer’s physical dimensions: in one spot the system is said to measure 135.5 x 115.5 x 34.5mm, which would be 5.33″ x 4.54″ x 1.36″ if converted from millimeters to inches. But in another spot it’s said to be 4.4″ x 4.4″ x 1.4″. So I’d take the measurements with a grain of salt.

Pricing and availability haven’t been announced yet, but GEEKOM’s partner Solid Pro plans to show off the mini PC this week during CES 2025.

GEEKOM QS1 Pro mini PC with Snapdragon X Elite is coming soon

The first laptops featuring Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors began shipping nearly half a year ago. But so far we haven’t seen any desktop computers with the chip except for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Dev Kit – and not only was that model aimed at developers rather than the general public, but it was also discontinued before most customers who had pre-ordered even received one.

Now Chinese mini PC maker GEEKOM is preparing to launch “the world’s 1st” mini PC with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor. Update (1/05/2025): An official spec sheet with more details was released just ahead of CES 2025. The original article continues below.

A promotional image of the upcoming GEEKOM QS Series mini PC showed up on Chinese social media site Weibo, although it’s worth noting that GEEKOM doesn’t appear to have officially introduced the computer yet.

Update: An alleged spec sheet for the GEEKOM QS1 Pro has been shared by El Chapuzas Informatico, though, which gives us an idea of what to expect. The mini PC is said to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon X1E-80-100 processor, up to 64GB of LPDDR5-5600 memory, and two M.2 2280 slots for PCIe Gen 4 storage.

Ports include:

  • 1 x USB4 Type-C
  • 3 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A
  • 1 x HDMI 2.0
  • 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
  • 1 x 2.5 GbE LAN
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio
  • 1 x SD card reader

The system also has a fingerprint sensor integrated in the power button and four built-in digital microphones and support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The mini PC is said to measure 135.5 x 115.5 x 34.5mm (5.33″ x 4.55″ x 1.36″).

I would take the spec sheet with a grain of salt though, as it claims that the computer has a GPU capable of delivering up to 4.6 TOPS of performance, which is… not true of the Snapdragon X1E-80-100 processor. That’s Qualcomm’s second most powerful chip for consumer PCs, with lower CPU speeds and a less powerful GPU than the top chip, which is the X1E-84-100.
