@bookstodon

Totally awestruck by Simon Jimenez' The Vanished Bird.

Such depth. Such compassion. Such imagination. Such beauty.

I wish I could read it again for the first time.

If you like SF and enjoy beautiful language you should try it.

Just finished EP32 of The Future of Podcasting by @davejackson and @theDanielJLewis about <Alternate Enclosure> - very timely to the conversation on here this week. #highlyrecommend

Glad to say Podfans has updated our use of the alternate enclosure so creators can add it to their RSS feed in Podfans. I have tested this with @Todd_Blubrry podcast New Media Show. This will be overwritten when the next episode drops. But we have audio/video in the same feed.

"Smoking Causes Coughing" is now on Hulu. This film is so much fun, but writer/director Quentin Dupieux's films almost always are (most well known is the cult-classic, "Rubber")

Oh, and despite how the photo looks, & the description, this is not really a Superhero film.

The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart movie isn't as good as a season 8 would have been, but it was a hell of a lot of fun and gave closure to several key plotlines, one in particular hysterical so.

And if you've never seen The Venture Bros., go watch the 7 seasons (they're on DVD or HBO Max) and then check out the new film!

These are some of the new #FoodPlants I will be #growing this season. I add a few new to me varieties, each year. These are all from my fave #SeedsSource - #SaanichOrganics - very high #germination rates. Way better than #Westcoast Seeds packs! #HighlyRecommend their #GMOfree seeds.

Finally reading “Fractured” - its is a fantastic materialist account of multi-racial working class struggle against the enclosing & exploitative power of capital & offers new & rich ways to practice solidarity 👇 #highlyrecommend

#HighlyRecommend:

#BecomingKin: An #IndigenousCall to Unforgetting the Past and Reimagining Our Future, by #PattyKrawec.

From the book’s description: “The invented history of the Western world is crumbling fast, Anishinaabe writer Patty Krawec says, but we can still honor the bonds between us. . . . Settler colonialism tried to force us into one particular way of living, but the old ways of kinship can help us imagine a different future. Krawec asks, What would it look like to remember that we are all related? How might we become better relatives to the land, to one another, and to Indigenous movements for solidarity?”

I found much of this book to be a pure meditation on what could be, and it invited me to envision a future where all life is included and all the Earth is respected. Krawec made me want it, and she made me think it is possible. And it had fascinating things to say about #water.

It may be hard, but we can do it.

book cover for Becoming Kin: An Indigenous Call to Unforgetting the Past and Reimagining Our Future, by Patty KrawecPassage from Becoming Kin: "Most cultures have a flood story. Just as a creation story tells us how we began, a flood story can tell us how to rebuild. In the Anishinaabe story, which we will visit in some detail later, Nanaboozhoo, a central figure in Anishinaabe stories, together with the animals rebuilt Turtle Island with a handful of mud gathered from deep below the floodwaters. In order to return to our original instructions — in order to unforget and pick up that handful of mud — we, too, must travel through the floodwaters."Passage from Becoming Kin: "We are living during a time of cataclysm and upheaval. We are in a flood event, and we have the potential to create something new. But first we need to swim deep down through the waters of history, and that is hard."

So #TheWonder, #Element's new #IRISH film set in #Ireland on #Netflix with #FlorencePugh #TomBurke, directed by #SebastiánLeliois IS wonderful with so many layers and legacies and histories. Cinematography captures Ireland as real, not diddly-i. Very special FX and sound tapestries including music score. #Film #Cinema #HighlyRecommend @mastodon.ie @mastodon.social #mastodon.ie #mastodon.social
