"Only way to get them to see after all this is to either yell at them or show their complicity" - which is what I did on X and have been doing on BlueSky and they STILL refuse to see or do anything concrete, not even to fix let alone create a better system. Oh I have left bread crumbs all over and sadly, they feel safe in their personal bubbles.

In a shocking twist, the metal overlords realized the novel concept that maybe, just maybe, violence isn't the answer—after only a few million trial runs. Who knew that the path to human extinction was paved with patience and learning? 🤖🔄 Humans, take note: even killer robots can pivot more efficiently than your average startup. 😂

Die weltweiten Treibhausgasemissionen haben schon wieder einen neuen Höchststand erreicht? Die nationalen Emissionsminderungspläne reichen bei weitem nicht aus, um eine Katastrophe für die Menschheit zu verhindern?

Genetic evidence suggests that the human population may have dropped to as few as 1,000 to 10,000 individuals as a result of the Mount Toba eruption ~74,000 years ago.

@eddyjokovich
Sad to see this on CNN today about killing of 700+ animals to feed Namibians in a severe drought where there's no food.
Namibian govt plans to distribute the meat to ppl. Apparently the animals are dying anyway bc el niño has dried up water holes and food sources have gone. Wtf..
This is how it starts for us all...

We are living in a highly controlled and manipulated environment, and have done for decades, to get us to accept our extinction is inevitable 👇

#AI #AGI #ExistentialRisk #HumanExtinction: "How seriously should governments take the threat of existential risk from AI, given the lack of consensus among researchers? On the one hand, existential risks (x-risks) are necessarily somewhat speculative: by the time there is concrete evidence, it may be too late. On the other hand, governments must prioritize — after all, they don’t worry too much about x-risk from alien invasions.

This is the first in a series of essays laying out an evidence-based approach for policymakers concerned about AI x-risk, an approach that stays grounded in reality while acknowledging that there are “unknown unknowns”.

In this first essay, we look at one type of evidence: probability estimates. The AI safety community relies heavily on forecasting the probability of human extinction due to AI (in a given timeframe) in order to inform decision making and policy. An estimate of 10% over a few decades, for example, would obviously be high enough for the issue to be a top priority for society.

Our central claim is that AI x-risk forecasts are far too unreliable to be useful for policy, and in fact highly misleading."

[P] I will say this: I genuinely believe that tribalism is a disease, an infectious one, one that's claimed more lives than any other disease.

At the end, it won't be a viral or bacterial disease that claims life on earth, it'll be the disease of tribalism. Hence why it's The Great Filter. A species must defeat tribalism, or go extinct at their own hand.

#BigTech #SiliconValley #LongTermism #PostHuman #TransHumanism #HumanExtinction: "Most of us would say that human extinction would be rather bad, for one reason or another. But not everyone would agree.

What kind of person prefers human extinction over continued existence? There are a few obvious suspects. One is the “philosophical pessimist” who argues that the world is full of so much human suffering that the nonexistence of our species is better than continued existence. Another is a certain stripe of radical environmentalist who claims that humanity is so destructive to the biosphere, that only our extinction can save what remains of the natural world.

Then there is a third group of people who aren’t bothered by the possibility of human extinction, and indeed some hope to actively bring it about in the coming decades. They represent a more dangerous and extreme form of pro-extinctionist ideology that is fairly widespread within Silicon Valley. In fact, some of the most powerful people in the tech world are members of this group, such as the co-founder of Google, Larry Page." truthdig.com/articles/team-hum

OK So Look It didn_t take long Dept: In this case it's #BillMaher #ClubRandom hosting #SethMcfarlane and the idiocy sets in round 36 minutes or so. The subject is #Vaccination and #COVID19. If fatality rate is a #Metric for a jumping virus we're talking the potential difference between COVID and Bird flu or perhaps...#AndromedaStrain and the difference between Bill and Seth, is #HumanExtinction. So you definitely want to go with Seth here.

Human Extinction
A History of the Science and Ethics of Annihilation

This volume traces the origins and evolution of the idea of human extinction, from the ancient Presocratics through contemporary work on "existential risks."

@bookstodon

Many leading intellectuals agree that the risk of human extinction this century may be higher than at any point in our 300,000-year history as a species. This book provides insight on the key questions that inform this discussion, including when humans began to worry about their own extinction and how the debate has changed over time. It establishes a new theoretical foundation for thinking about the ethics of our extinction, arguing that extinction would be very bad under most circumstances, although the outcome might be, on balance, good. Throughout the book, graphs, tables, and images further illustrate how human choices and attitudes about extinction have evolved in Western history. In its thorough examination of humanity’s past, this book also provides a starting point for understanding our future.
Although accessible enough to be read by undergraduates, Human Extinction contains new and thought-provoking research that will benefit even established academic philosophers and historians.
Review
In this fascinating book, Émile Torres surveys the surprisingly rich history of apocalyptic thought in earlier centuries; this forms the backdrop to a comprehensive survey and critique of modern discourses on this compelling issue which confronts us―and does so with ever-increasing urgency. The book is fascinating, thought-provoking, and deserving of wide readership.
