The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850: Annotated from JSTOR Daily

The denial of due process, lack of access to legal assistance, some states’ cooperation with Immigration & Customs Enforcement agents, and the similar tactics of separation of families, seizure, & rendition of individuals echo the worst of the Fugitive Slave Act’s destruction.

As always, the works are available to readers free of charge for reading & download.

"Individual protests can be quashed by state violence, the authors explain, but they’re much more likely to succeed when they’re part of a large and ongoing nonviolence campaign. Successful organizing includes documenting evidence of government abuses, sharing information broadly, and building administrative systems rather than relying on a few leaders who may be assassinated or otherwise incapacitated."

The trees remember, and unlike elephants, trees can never forget…

sudden, single-year leaps in the concentration of carbon-14 in trees, as well as beryllium-10 and chlorine-36 in ice sheets—have been confirmed in 7176 BC, 5410 BC, 5259 BC, 774 AD, and 993 AD.

I'm trying to get back into the habit of reading non #tech stuff again.

I've followed #jstordaily and #Aeon magazine for #history and #philosophy purposes.

Any recommendations for websites with #rss or a #newsletter I can follow that's well cited in any related field?

JSTOR Daily is still letting me write for them - yay! - and this month I discuss architectural history's lack of effort in recording queer spaces.

"The dominant heteroview of architectural history means we may lose our queer spaces and their histories before we even know they exist."

My latest on JSTOR Daily is all about one of my favorite things - architecture manifestos from the early 20th century. Niche, I know, but I absolutely love this stuff 😁

"Manifestos were a way for experimental and radical architects to explain the new architectural designs they were pursuing, free from the definitions of the Greco-Roman tradition."
