@Goldmaster @fedora I tried it on #kubuntu it did works. Not so sure about the workflow, I'm testing out #Ableton to see how it works for me now. I might get into Native Instruments.

Pues va excelente. He pasado de tener un portátil arrumbado y que por Windows era carne de vertedero a volver a funcionar. Para un "no informático" como yo la facilidad de actualizaciones es un punto positivo.

Since last night my 2020 Windows machine dual boots to #Kubuntu. I still am a Mac user mainly, but Kubuntu gave new life to my secondary machine. And returning to KDE after version 1 I can see the pleasing difference in aesthetics

Mais sinon #Ubuntu et #LinuxMint ou #LinuxLite sont très bien pour commencer

XFCE is a very lightweight desktop environment, many automatism are deliberately missing or need to be configured.
#Kubuntu [1] (Ubuntu with KDE) or maybe a #Almalinux with Mate[2] (if a more GNOME like interface is wanted) could be better solutions.

Dumb decisions (like removing VLC codecs) are what stops me from recommending Fedora at all.
Updating #Kubuntu fromNoble to 25.05 was the worst upgrading experience in my whole life! Don't do that! A total mess! I took a day to bring the system back and working.

The installer of #Debian13 provided the disk configuration I wanted as one of the four preconfigured options of its guided partitioning. I'll take that as prove that the problem are not my exotic requirements, but the broken installer of #Ubuntu / #Kubuntu. It also makes me feel good about my switch to #Debian 😀
sorry for the complaining today. But another thing on #kde #kubuntu is "activities" they just don't seem to work well. In Windows 11 I can set thngs to a virtual desktop and they just stay that way, even after a reboot. And yet somehow I can alt+tab from one activity to another. Or a link in Mastadon will open up on Chrome in the other Activity.

One thing on #kubuntu / #kde I can't get to work correctly is a snap to for my windows. I want one window of Chrome open on half the screen and another on the other half.
In Windows 11 it just works and more importantly groups the two together so I can quickly alt+tab to the group of splt Chrome windows
Here's an example of a dumb one. When I do "git push ..." Ksshpass window opens up and asks for a password first, but what it is really asking for is my username which it hides behinds *. Took way too long to figure that out.

I gave #Wayland a try yesterday on #Kubuntu #2404. Weirdly, I had a second ghost monitor to start the session, and that took a little to figure out. But once I got going everything seemed to be working, and it was running on #Nvida drivers. It is so close. My #wine #games worked, awesome. What did not work were my heavier #Steam games. They run slow on #X11, but they work. Wayland I was at like a frame every 2 minutes haha. Soon. I'll try it again in a month and tinker with some settings. :owi:
Letztendlich ist es #Kubuntu geworden. Schnurrt wie ein Kätzchen und sieht schick aus. Installation kinderleicht. Bisher keinerlei Probleme!
