Thanks for showing interest in #kazarma. We know it's relevant but seeing demand is always nice :)

Work on kazarma has been on pause because we focused on another project (we welcomed a developer that will help us progress on both fronts).
It has also been longer than planned since we figured that we had to accommodate both people that want easy bridging and people that don't even want to be found from another network.

Hi! Yesterday, someone probably used our staging instance (i.e. not for public use) to generate activity and because of a beta behavior we hadn't really thought of, our relaybot asked around 80 ppl if it could follow them.
We shut this instance down for now, while we're discussing on our Matrix room (https://matrix.to/#/#kazarma:matrix.org) and on Gitlab all the things we gotta take into account like opt-in, nobot and noindex before putting a "real" public instance live, sorry for the spam! #Kazarma

I've moved to suspend #Kazarma (staging.kazar.ma) with a #fediblock due to it's "out out" strategy of bridging matrix and activitypub style sites.

Don't get me wrong, I've used relay services for IRC before (ie, janus, discord bots), but that was with full permission and cooperation with other server admins.

Service bridges are not inherently bad, but they can be exploited by bad actors evading silences and bans. I will not chance that with my community here.

The people that attempt to run these types of services need to realize things need to be "opt in" services- not the other way around. Do better.

Who knows something about #Kazarma ? There's a bot account, relay at staging.kazar.ma, and I'm ignorant of its purpose in following Mastodon users. Should I be suspicious?

Seems suspicious. The domain gives me no results aside from the follow bot, and opening the original page doesn't give me a typical Mastodon/pleroma/whatever profile, so that's no help.
