I found my first post on renoise forums - from 2008.
I think I actually downloaded first Renoise for Linux beta 1.9.1 in 2008 and then bought Renoise 2.0 for Linux for ~60€ - which lasted till next full version 3.0, when I paid another ~70€ for next major version (until 4.0), which is still ongoing. So I spent less then 150€ in 16 years for a DAW that works on Linux (with JACK/PipeWire) and had a few crashes here and there but is rock solid and packed with amazing -- and unique! -- features - some of them rather experimental but fully functional - a true marvel of a software if you ask me.
If I'd need to decide what to take on an island without internet, it would be #SuperCollider, #Renoise, and #Ardour on an Linux laptop.
(BTW I used ScreamTracker 2)
Day 48 done. I am not thinking about work at all for the next 36 hours.
There will be #LinuxAudioProduction of #ElectronicMusic that may be #BonkWave or #NotBonkWave in #BitwigStudio.
And since it is #Caturday here is the late and amazing Ms Monster. ❤️🩹
My #LinuxAudioProduction journey is being hampered by erratic GUI response in #BitwigStudio
I’m having issues with adjusting modulator knobs on #LinuxMint v22.2. They respond erratically.
Is this a #Wayland vs #X11 thing? I’ve got the most recent Nvidia drivers installed, FWIW.
Nearly vanilla install (updates, QuickEMU, Bitwig, VCVRack, and DaVinci Resolve being all that’s installed).
How can I get my modulators to be easier/smoother to control?
Is there a Linux Sample Player Plugin that can load Kontakt libraries??
#linuxaudio #linuxAudioProduction #linuxaudioplugin #kontakt #sampleplayer
Also regarding Native Instruments AGAIN...
Getting Access 2 to work in wine seems to be not doable (right!?). However i have a full installon my win partition. Copied the vsts and yabridged them. Ardour does recognize them but when loaded they want activation through ... Native Access.
If there is anyone knowing someone from NI. Let them know they should rebrand themselves to asunnativeashumanlypossible.

So i "ported" my Waves to Linux by copy/pasting the vst files and folders into a wine env. Yabridge showed no errors. Waveshells get scanned by Ardour.
But!
I have my licences on a USB and the activation doesn't seem to recognize it. Anyone an idea??
Switched to PlayonLinux for more convenient config. Still no clue how to get ASIO to work. There is a "wineasio" install feature but that only works in 32bit. But i need a 64bit for TONEX to work, right?!
webresearch so far without any clue.
Btw TONEX loads but the preferences window's respnose is also pretty bad.
that was a not that successful sunday.
Any alternatives to Boss Tone Studio?
To use the Katana 3rd gen.
Fxfloorboard doesn't work.

Alguna alternativa a Boss Tone Studio?
Para usar el Katana 3gen.
Fxfloorboard no me funciona.

Ok so #linuxaudioproduction update:
- Bitwig is really cool
- there are enough Linux-native synths and DSP plugins these days to do pretty much anything (so long as you have the expertise to know what it is you actually want to do)
- "physical modeling" synth pianoteq is at least as good as any sampled piano, and is Linux native 👍
- HOWEVER orchestral sample libraries are still very much lacking, which is a bit of a kick in the nuts ngl
alright, party's over, i've absolutely fucking had it with windows at this point. been daily driving fedora at work for a while now but i haven't dared to do the same on my home pc and my studio pc. i think my recording laptop would be a good start.
recording engineers of the linux community, how have your experiences been? especially curious about the reaper linux build, vst and device support (especially ADAT), any issues you've run into, etc
Side note:
Found a post that iK Multimedia doesn't support Linux because too few people use Linux for audio production. Well duh, if there is no plugin support one can't use it.
And i heard statements like this around the industry. I get the problems of porting but the excuse is so lame. Well just make it workable in wine then, will ya?!?

Update # 3
Skipped Waves and iLok in lack of fun doing for today. Tried to get ToneX to work. Got the manager working but installing causes issue in not finding the download folder. I assume some kind of sandboxing (read smth like this in a post).
So still no waves, STL, or iK.
Unfortunately i rely heavily on these. ToneX and STL Libra is a big part of my business model.
DO LINUX SUPPORT IN THE FIRT PLACE FFS!!!

Update # 2
Found a post on the Waves Powershell issue. So waves should be doable.
What i read about iLok and wine/Linux doesn't make me smile at all though. I don't have many licenses but the ones i have are important. STL ... just saying.
Will call it a day now and see where things go tomorrow.

Ok update:
Someone here who knows how to get powershell in a wine prefix? Seems like the Waves Central need PS to execute.

Weekend project. Checking out yabridge and porting win VST to linux. So far so good for natives atm.
next: iLok, Waves stuff. If anyone has experience i'm very open for tips.
Any settings to minimize wine-caused cpu load?

Oh my word. Presonus! Studio One Pro Perpetual license is now only $150! With a Linux version!
Today I discovered Audiorelay, a tool that let's you use your smartphone as a mic in your computer. I don't think it's FOSS though. Does anyone know of any FOSS alternatives that work on Andoind and Linux?
@Traumkaempfer Hast du vielleicht ein paar Einzelheiten zu deinem Sound-Setup unter Linux? Die verwendete Hardware wäre auch interessant. #linuxaudio #linuxaudiocommunity #linuxAudioProduction
