Gravity Hill, Pittsburgh—terrain optical illusion. Downhill slope appears uphill. Built web map with #MapLibreGL + #MapTiler showing location + video demo of phenomenon.
Experimented with animation: marker rolls onto screen on page load. Small detail, reinforces playful nature.
Reminder: spatial perception isn't just data/measurement—it's context, expectation, sometimes wonder.

Pale greens are forrest, grass and wetland.
Very light brown is farmland.
Grey is residential areas
Yellow is industrial, light red retail, pale light red commerse.
Pink is hospitals.
Purple is education, from kindergarten through university.
Sports pitches are bright green.
The maptiler vector tile schema unfortunately does not contain sports_centre as areas, nor social institutions, amongst others.
Of course the colorful map is thanks to mappers tagging areas, thus giving this overview of what is where (though some smaller areas will materialize as you zoom in).

Playing around with #maplibre and #openfreemaps. This is the #maptiler basic style applied to openfreemap tiles, and a #gpx track of a recent daysail.
It is not compeltely trivial to apply maptiler/openmaptiles styles to openfreemap, but possible. Nice, since openfreemap tiles are, as indicated by the name, free to use. Visit https://openfreemap.org to learn more about it.
This setup is entirely cookie- and apikey free, in this simple configuration. For contour lines, hillshadows geocoding and such, I think an api key for maptiler is needed.

I built upon the map of Day 28. Instead of blue, I used topological colouring of basin polygons blended with the rivers from #HydroSHEDS. The Hammer & Eckert-Greifendorff projection was used to show all continents. Ocean from #MapTiler. Made with #QGIS
