#MorphOS

Likely a perfect Advent exercise (read: to reduce relying on things and to fast) to be online using #MorphOS and a #NetBSD shell.

Heard RAM is expensive these days? I'm on 1,5GB, working perfectly fine. ;-) #MorphOS #permaComputing

I almost ditched my published #GeminiProtocol capsules. Well, and then I saw how fast #Gemini runs using #AmiGemini on #Amiga and #MorphOS. Reason enough to stay with it.

#MorphOS - your therapeutical operating system.

@lazarus @objfw I read the #morphos page and I don't think i can understand what it is. It's an OS? It's a hardware standard? And it looks like Amiga?

@sgharms Apple still develops #macOS more than #GNUstep ever evolved. Problem is I don't like the direction it's going. I don't want a network request for every app that I open.
But GNUstep won't help. It's just a POC, not able to deliver meaningful software anymore.
In case you want to develop #ObjC on living systems, try @objfw on literally any OS out there. In case you want a system where ObjC really is used to develop current applications, try #MorphOS.

@pancake you should try #morphos on old Macs, itโ€™s an interesting OS compatible with the Amiga ecosystem

MorphOS: XML Viewer 0.17 (beta version)
Michal 'rzookol' Zukowski's XML Viewer is a small MUI program based on the expat.library for displaying XML files for MorphOS, the latest version of which was released nine years ago. Now the author has resumed work on it and is making a beta version of XML Viewer 0.17 available.

More serious comment: What's really great about that #Amiga / #MorphOS community is that there are a lot of software "authors", like, single persons writing serious, usable apps and maintaining them for years.
Yes, sometimes you need to pay for apps - maybe there's a relation? ๐Ÿ˜‰
We'd need way more of that on #Linux, and it's a pity @elementary isn't succeeding offering paid apps on its #AppCenter yet.
It could be the best of what you'd call #artisanalSoftware

Using #MorphOS I feel that #classic I almost need to start studying ancient Greek again...

Special experience: Adding my #CardDAV account to #Iris (mail/contacts app) and literally see thousands of contacts being synced within seconds. On a single-core, single-threaded machine having 1,3 Ghz, no CPU heat involved, while it would blow up fans and take quite a while more on a Linux machine having 4/8 cores and a ten years newer CPU.

Sick at home. Perfect time to fiddle around with some retro hardware (without hacking because of brain fog).
Tried out #MorphOS on my old #iBookG4. And it's impressive how well it works (once you get used to the very different input way of things of the Amiga UI). Things and apps look well done and well maintained.
