Errands must be run. This requires outdoor clothes and shoes. Why is shopping in pyjamas not a thing?😂

My Autism: want to do the things! All the things! Let's go!

My ADHD: gets distracted after 5 minutes, spends the next hour googling frog mating rituals.

A friend told me they found their daughter had color–graphemic synesthesia, i.e. letters or numbers are perceived as inherently colored. It never came up because the daughter figured that was how everybody saw the world.

Me: Yep. I am an aphant and for a long time figured "close your eyes and imagine an apple" was just a figure of speech.

Anyhow, boring aphants *can* have "photographic memory", it simply displays as redacted, 😃.

How do neurotypicals know how to deal with situations where you are alone with a professional.

It's not social, different rules apply. But you never see how others do it.

Things I do that might be ND related - when I want to take in a piece of media but I am struggling to get my brain to actually comply:

Start a show from episode 2 if I think the first episode is going to be set-up. The pilot is often not the best example of what the show is going to be like and so not that helpful in deciding if I should keep watching. And I find the 'how we all got here' pilot a bit boring. If I end up watching the whole show I will go back and watch the pilot - it is now back story for a show I'm invested in and characters I care about. (Sometimes I will skip the whole first season for similar reasons).

If I'm reading an essay / nonfiction piece of some kind and it is not grabbing me but I do want to know what it's talking about. Skip ahead to the last paragraph. . Often writers start with some vague generalities or 'big picture' table setting or an anecdote - all of which is supposed to grab the reader. But I do not care yet; I want to know what the thesis of the piece is. Cut to the chase. Read the end first. That is usually where the tl;dr is. If that's interesting enough, go back and read the rest. Either starting again at the top or reading each paragraph in reverse order. (fwiw traditional news writing does the inverse of the typical essay structure - which I very much appreciate).

My brain when I am trying to write a process document:

Melody: YMCA

What if, this component explodes
And then which one, of all these failure modes
Will then likely, pose a danger on roads
And to the, life, of, the, driver

True story. I remember being maybe 11 years old and realizing I didn't fit in. After sobbing for a while, I thought to myself, "Do you want to fit in? Or do you want to be yourself?" I knew to NOT fit in would bring more pain, and isolation... But I'm so glad I chose to be myself (mostly -- I did mask a bit, as exhausting as it was). I paid the price, but became a staunch defender of my friends -- who were #ND, or #NonWhite, or #LGBTQ, or different in other ways. I don't regret my decision...

So, like #AlbertEinstein and #NikolaTesla were more than likely #Neurodivergent. I'm pretty sure their moms didn't take #Tylenol.
