Dull observation: Local fire hydrants near the office have been recently repainted. Several have fresh coats of silver paint. NFPA seems to indicate that hydrant should have yellow barrels with color coded caps. Private hydrants should be red. #NFPA indicates that this is only enforceable if local jurisdictions require it. Appears that #Lewisville doesn't really follow it. I note that #Denton has been rolling this scheme out. Seems to be controlled on a municipal level around here.

The story is "Everybody Stepped Up.' It describes the Brockton, #Massachusetts Hospital's fire, and the elegant response by the local fire department, supported by departments from across Eastern Mass. This writer published a dozen questions and responses, little more, and thrilled me.

Gratifying meetings of the Committee on Electrical Maintenance, creating the second draft of NFPA 73, Electrical #Inspection of Existing #Dwellings. One change for 2025 adoption: no more grandfathering for receptacles that need #GFCI protection. I hadn't expected us to go this far, but when someone buys a home, this will protect them. Another is more a camel's nose: an Annex reminder re #bonding past #dielectric fittings or plastic tubing interrupting metal #plumbing.

@ONFireChiefs It's wonderful that you are able to enforce this. I don't know Canadian codes; how is it a social services board was involved? Was this an #AssistedLiving facility?

Chatting with someone today at our weekly #Ukraine support vigil, I listened to a complaint about the inadequate wiring in their old apartment. I suggested sending in a proposal for #NFPA 73, the standard for #Electrical #Inspection of existing #Dwellings. He was interested, so I later sent him the information on how to offer #Public_Input to change consensus standards. I hope he doesn't look at the process and decide it sounds like too much work. #Agency, self- #empowerment does take effort.

The #National_Fire_Protection_Association gives the public--all of us--the chance to submit public inputs and comments to change their #consensus #standards. They're free to leaf through online, if you establish a no-cost account, though of course they encourage you to buy. September deadline for the 2026 National#Electrical#Code, #NFPA.org/70.
