"Unsecured bonds and custody releases are not permitted for a defendant who has been convicted of three or more offenses (each of which is at least a Class 1 misdemeanor) in separate sessions of court within the previous 10 years."
You can catch a class 1 misdemeanor in NC for being somewhere that there is a "no trespassing" sign or where someone has asked you to leave before. It's also a popular charge for cops to use when they just want an excuse to arrest someone, even if they are on public property. Who is going to say the cop didn't tell you to leave?
We're about to see a lot more unhoused people warehoused in #NC jails.
This law is part of a war against due process happening in the US. Make no mistake, due process in this country is a myth, but in recent years there has been a lot of writing coming out of right wing think tanks advocating attacks on things that would help people fight bullshit charges. FYI - my recollection of Charlotte (from 15 or so years ago when I was last there for a week) was that it was a lot like Oklahoma City - maybe best described as politically purple. It is more racially diverse, but otherwise has a lot of common attributes with OKC.

The training emphasized the pigs will be shouting in your face to comply; it tries to help you find ways to cope without dropping to their level of abuse. Which is challenging.
It was a quick summary class out in Asheville. Mostly a “meet your community”. The full class is two days long. And much needed. Bring tissues.
