A walk this morning round a lake in the area spotted 4 bunnies, 2 does and a turkey. Oh and a white rhododendron. Couldn't catch the bunny photo...

One in-focus clump of white rhododendron blossoms fills the center of the photo, with its green, waxy leaves radiating out from it. Behind and to the upper left is a similar clump, out of focus.

Each of the blossoms comprising this bloom (perhaps a couple of dozen, I need to count these sometime) is a 5-petal white, with one petal having a yellowish snake skin or leopard-like pattern on the inside. There are also a dozen or so small white tubes with red/brown seeds at the end in the very center. What a joy they are this time of year.

Two female deer were grazing in this area (I think it's a house site, as those are probably utility bollards behind them.) It is wild and grassy, with trees around, but the 2 does are center stage. The younger one is still feeding, but her mama (I'm guessing) is now looking right at us.

Quite a large wild turkey is doing the trot up a hillside towards a large house (out of the photo) as we were walking in the same direction s(he) was. He was quite perturbed by our presence, and trotted off until he was out of sight. The ducks who were previously hanging out with him took flight down to the water, instead.

He is big, about the size of a medium-sized dog on skinny legs, with a brown tail, black upper wings and whitish lower ones, and a dull red head and wattle.

He looked worried.

A calming photo of the community dock. It is in the shame of a "T", jutting out into the very calm lake, with overcast skies. The trees on the far bank are all fully leafed out, but in a handsome light green, while the mountains one can see behind them are also cloaked in green now.

Two Adirondack chairs are set on the top of the "T", partially facing each other, and the view of the lake. Someday I'll have to do more than photograph these guys.

A large (?) frog barked at me as I was taking this picture, but he didn't show anything more than his disapproval of my presence.

"Howell, the official who would recommend evacuation orders to the county commission chair, didn’t do so. In this largely conservative place — fresh off a culture war battle over a Pride display at the local library — he didn’t think the chair would go for them. Nor did he think residents would heed orders, given many locals’ disdain for government mandates and their pride in self-reliance."

We need the National Weather Service. More than ever.
