- ⌨️ TUI (Terminal User Interface)
- snappy as ⚡ snappy can
- Feature komplett mit Soße und scharf🌶️
- 🆘? cheatsheet auf F1, zack!

CMUS and MOC are two audio players that are easier to use. They both just work out-of-the-box; you just install them and they just work without editing any configuration files.
Supposedly, MPD and ncmpcpp have more options and features but require editing configuration files to get them both to work properly. After editing a few files, I still could not get them working. Things do not have to be this hard to listen to audio files on Linux.
ncmpcpp (NCurses Music Player Client Plus Plus) is a ncurses based MPD client with many features inspired by ncmpc.
Andrzej Rybczak, the developer, says that no new, substantial features should be expected because the project is in maintenance mode. He does not have time to further develop the audio player. However, if there are any serious bugs or incompatible issues, he will fix them.
I wrote a bit about how I setup my music player here with hopefully enough information to replicate it!

I also wrote a while back about analyzing my entire music
collection by year here https://jo-chestnut.neocities.org/mp3-year-analysis using exiftools and a ruby script. Last.fm has a similar measure for things you've listened to broken down by decade, so I kinda wanted to bucket it that way, just to see it a little differently. That's the second screenshot, made in numbers.app from exported csv data using the base data from that analysis.
I updated my post about my MPD / music setup with some new stuff I added to the mix to deal with DRM'ed stuff coming out of apple music/soundcloud/spotify/youtube/whatever (specifically using Audio Hijack and Fission and Youtube Video Downloader)

A little tweak to dunst on a wet Saturday afternoon.
Not sure why I didn't think of having notifications in the bottom center earlier.

After a first draft in August, I finally translated and published a post about #music. Read on if you're interested about #mpd, #nextcloud, #beets and #ncmpcpp

Fancier track change notifications from ncmpcpp running in a terminal.
I had to replace GNOME's own notification daemon with wired-notify for this. The GNOME one would still work, but it's much less configurable.

I've been using #ncmpcpp for over a decade but I still have to look up how to spell it every time
