#suckless

Before someone mentions it, I'm aware of #Surf and have tried it. I ultimately could not use it because malicious ads and other web components have become so much of a problem that the internet is basically unusable without a content blocker like #uBlockOrigin . Also, I have such difficulty patching any #suckless apps that need more than two or three patches that I tend to give up on using it if I need that many patches. Surf is one such app.

Dang,

#suckless "tabbed" doesn't work under KDE Wayland :(

It was a great tool because I could view a bunch of PDFs one after another and they all stayed in the same window.

I tried [kiview] as an analogue of the classic MacOS X quickview, but it's pretty hacky.

I just want to be able to have one window that lets me flip between a long list of PDFs as I'm entering data from them. Argh.

UPDATE: Found a good workaround: #Oklular lets you view PDFs in a tabbed view, so I just open them all and close the tabs as I go. Perfect!

One of the downsides of using the #DevTerm_R01 always was that there was seemingly no Browser suitable for the modern Web available. While #Dillo really works well on classic websites (and is blazing fast on the Devterms constrained resources), sometimes one simply needs to access the modern Web.

Well, i tried out surf from the #suckless project, and while - even with good will - it couldn't be called fast, it IS usable.

Yeah, it's a pity that there's no way to get to #WebKit through #Qt anymore. Somewhat ironic, since Webkit was forked from from #Konqueror, which was a #KDE project built on Qt.

There's also #Suckless Surf as an über-minimalistic browser (not too bad as an #SSB, honestly), but it's not a serious contender for daily driving. I don't even daily drive #LuaKit, and I love vim-style programs.

@johntimaeus also allows them to create different classes, to do user testing -- this version comes with X, this version comes with Y, this one comes with X and Z.

Leading to further iteration, and further creation of demand for niche options and features, because they were available that one time, in that one release.

I really find myself better understanding those #suckless (a 'brand' of open source tools that are exceptionally simple and 'do the job') folks, as time goes on.

Sometimes the answer is just simpler. I really need to find a #gemini interface for #Mastodon / #ActivityPub; ideally I'd still like to have this profile, and just access it and post to it from gemini, and I think projects exist for it.

Javascript is a huge vulnerability and a requirement of accessing the current-day 'web' without having a horrible user experience. It complicates things so much and creates so much work for security folks and developers in general and wastes so much bandwidth ... oh boy, I'm off in the weeds, let me try to pull back...

Keep it stupid simple. #KISS ... been a motto for a long time, and I've fallen into the trap of unnecessary complexity.

Been on dwm for a solid year now, and I have to say I've never been more happy with my window manager than right now!! Huge thank you to everyone at Suckless for creating this incredible piece of software.

Tweaks to dwm. st and picom, changed to LTS kernel to avoid that annoying logout when recompiling dwm bug.
