Today we had a tricky replacement. We ditched OpenAI/ChatGPT. Why? Because we don't want to have any business with a rogue state. The alternative we choose is Mistral AI with Ollama and Open WebUI. We run this on an Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano Super development kit. The specific model we use is ministral-3:3b. Sure, it's not up to par with the latest GPT model. But it suits us. The enshittification of #OpenWebUI… It begins to feel more like #Nextcloud (and Drupal before that) with every update, with its shift to become a full fledge enterprise-ware. Makes me appreciate #gptel and the rest of the ecosystem built on top of #emacs even more for its focus on the user and their data.

I've been working on a tool to add scientfic data from PubChem, ChEMBL, RDKit and others into OpenWebUI. It watches for keywords in your prompt and then makes an API request to the appropriate service and includes the scientific data it extracts with your prompt for the model to have.
