Has anyone ever migrated a macOS system that uses #OrbStack, including Docker volumes and images, to a new device?

I'm a bit concerned about the sparse 8TB file at ~/.orbstack/data/data.img, and what TimeMachine does with it. Issue tracksr of Orbstack predicts some woes?!

I mostly use compose.yml for my own setups. Are there any drawbacks or missing features you’ve come across in OrbStack that made you go “wish this was here”?

I might replace my #homelab with a Mac Mini. Currently, I limit my home server to save power, but it has become noticeably slow. Additionally, my platform is quite unstable. While #MacOS might not be the ideal OS for server use, it would suit my needs. For #docker containers, I can use #orbstack, and Plex can run natively. I’d lose the ability to unionize my fs (like how Unraid combines disks), but I’m okay with that. On the plus side, I could finally use the native Backblaze client for backups.

Is Rails dev with docker still a nightmare of slowness and frustration, in this the year 2024? I am specifically interested in containerizing the Rails app itself, so I don’t have to deal with external dependencies and making sure they are getting discovered correctly by gems. I have heard murmurs about OrbStack being the silver bullet, but I haven’t seen any testimonials or blog posts about it.

Anyone have any suggestions or can point to any success stories?
