Plataniotissa verbirgt eine der ungewöhnlichsten Kirchen Griechenlands: eine kleine Kapelle im Inneren eines gewaltigen Platanenbaums. Mehrere Stämme sind über Jahrhunderte zu einem Komplex mit etwa 17 Metern Umfang zusammengewachsen, der einen hohlen Kirchenraum von rund acht Metern schafft. Dort finden etwa ein Dutzend Gläubige Platz zwischen den Ikonen. Schwaches Licht sickert durch Rindenspalten, in denen Besucher oft Zettel mit Wünschen und Gebeten stecken lassen.
