Podman 5.8: Quadlet Multi-File Install, Automatic SQLite Migration, and the Road to 6.0
Podman 5.8 :podman: just dropped and it's quietly setting the stage for 6.0.
The highlights:
- Quadlet multi-file install (bundle your whole stack in one file, finally)
- Automatic BoltDB -> SQLite migration
- AppArmor support in Quadlet unit files
- podman exec --no-session for faster exec calls
If you're running Quadlet-based deployments, this one's worth your attention.
Podman 5.8 now supports installing multiple Quadlet files at once and automatically migrates BoltDB databases to SQLite in preparation for Podman 6.0.

Podman v5.8.0 has just been released! It's on its way to Fedora and other distros shortly. Features include changes to Quadlet, changes to the artifact and update commands, and more! Check out the release notes! https://github.com/containers/podman/releases/tag/v5.8.0 #podman #OpenSource

Well I've do this one and for me it's a Graal. I can run #Arch in #Debian with #Podman. Great discovering. Thx
Here is update 2 of 3 - https://robmcbryde.com/moving-from-casaos-to-straight-docker-compose
I've been making changes to my homelab set up lately prompted by the loss of support for #CasaOS, and the process has had many twists and turns.

If you were looking for Podman v5.8 RC1, look no further! It's just dropped on GitHub and should be making its way to Fedora and other distros soon! Look for the v5.8.0 final later this month! https://github.com/containers/podman/releases/tag/v5.8.0-rc1 #podman #OpenSource
Why run containers when we have microVMs? For example: " New MICROVM kernel for x86, supporting both i386 and amd64, NetBSD 11.0 introduces a dedicated MICROVM kernel designed for extremely fast virtual machines boot, leveraging PVH boot, VirtIO MMIO, and multiple kernel optimizations, it can boot in about 10 ms on 2020-era x86 CPUs." https://netbsd.org/releases/formal-11/NetBSD-11.0.html
#NetBSD #docker #podman
🦭 RF Swift now supports #Podman! Run your RF security lab rootless/rootful & daemonless. Auto-detects Docker or Podman at runtime. v1.0.0 "Skywave" 📡🔓

I still have no idea how to get #WireGuard on (rootless) #Podman working - I mean I did get it to work, but #SSH does not work from outside of the network. Web services are accessible tho with the #VPN connection, just not SSH itself.
Just published a new Fedora 42-based container image with everything you need to build and test Neo-Geo homebrew using ngdevkit.

After creating my new #blog using @gohugoio I looked for a way to automate the deployment of the site to my @Podman_io server.
I created a #git action on my @forgejo server and documented it here: https://mbaehler.ch/posts/hugo-gitaction/
I wrote a pretty simple #11ty static website you could self-host (using #Docker/#Podman) as a neat, little profile for your pet #cat or #dog!
Some of its current features:
- Dark/light mode support
- Showcase basic information about your pet, their routine, habits, personality, etc.
- Showcase health records including vaccinations, conditions, allergies, medications, and more
- Add ways to contact you or another emergency contact person
- All data used to make up your site are easily configurable via user-supplied JSON files and optional photos
- Automatic image optimisation in production (WebP + JPEG at responsive sizes) with metadata stripping
I basically wrote this project just so I could self-host a site completely gushing over my cat, Mocha, and laser etched a QR code pointing to the site on the back of his nametag. I'm pretty happy with the outcome so it'll be pretty cool if this could serve anyone who's had the idea to do the same :))
