I found DKIM error in setup on my mail server. dmarcian.com had a DKIM validator. SPF and DMARC had to be setup OK on DNS too. I can now email from my domain to outlook.com without it bouncing or being dropped. #email #dkim #spf #dmarc #microsoft #outlook #hotmail #dns #block #opendkim #postfix

Yesterday was #DigitalIndependenceDay! #Email is vital and predates the web. Though fully federated, it’s now dominated by large providers. Luckily, alternatives like #Posteo or #ProtonMail exist. The hoster #Uberspace also offers email if you like it more hands-on. For 10+ years, I run #Postfix + #Dovecot in my homelab: Relay outbound via my domain provider’s #SMTP and use #Fetchmail to pull inbound mail to my #IMAP server.

1) the server is not proprietary, it is just a normal email server with #postfix + #dovecot configured optimized for chatting without rate-limits see https://chatmail.at

2) they didn't assign you forcefully a server, you choose to proceed with the default onboarding, there was a "use other server" button right in that screen with option to use other chatmail or your own classic email server

the default server will change to random in the future when multi-relay is ready

I self-host my own e-mail servers for ~25 years now. Just finished he migration to a new system today.

- OS: FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE
- MTA: Postfix 3.10
- IMAP: Dovecot 2.3
- Filter: Rspamd 3.14

I used Imapsync to migrate the content of my Mailboxes from the old to the new system. Worked absolutely fine.

Having the E-Mail Jail and the mailbox data on an encrypted ZFS dataset (AES256) that's manually unlocked with my passphrase after rebooting the system. Backups are done via ZFS send/recv to by backup server (-w for raw send to ensure, data is encrypted at rest)

- SPF: ✅
- DKIM Signing: ✅
- DMARC Reporting: ✅
- E-Mail delivery to major providers: ✅
- IPv6 working and actually being used: ✅

All working perfectly well. In about a week, I'll decomission the old Debian based system, that I used since 2017!

Das #Dovecot 2.4.2 Update unter #Gentoo ist auch so ein Krampf. Die neue Standardkonfiguration verlangt den User "vmail", der nicht vom Installationsskript angelegt wird. Früher™ hat das auch mit anderen Nutzern geklappt (z.B. bei #Postfix). Naja. Und die Integration mit #procmail ist jetzt auch futsch. Menooo.

Eine halbwegs hilfreiche Update-Anleitung fehlt auch. Ich hab jetzt wirklich kein komplizierte Setup, nur persönliche Mails abrufen und einsortieren, halber Vormittag dafür schon weg. 🙄

I'm operating my own mail-server at home. This works well for years, until my Internet-providers started to block outgoing-connections on port 25 ... Incoming connections on port 25 still works. So I can receive mails but not send them anymore. 🙃

Does anyone knows a trick? Maybe tell Postfix using port 587 for b2b mail connections?

Der #Postfix in meiner #Yunohost installation spackt seit irgendeinem Update rum. Konkret geht das SASL Relay nicht mehr. Auch ein händischer postmap wird nur mit einem

"postmap: fatal: open database /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd.db: File exists"

quittiert. Datei existiert natürlich nicht weshalb Postfix die auch nicht findet und mails nicht über den Relay gehen.

#TIL: postfix' /var/lib/postfix/verify_cache.db - here are map lookups cached (e.g. you use transportmaps stored in mysql). Also the ones, when a user wasnt found. -.-

(2/2) So there now is a new mapping for transport policies in my /etc/postfix/main.cf file like this:

# transport policies for specific recipients/domains
transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/transport

A new service in /etc/postfix/master.cf like this:

smtp-ipv4 unix .. .. .. .. .. smtp
-o inet_protocols=ipv4

And a new entry in /etc/postfix/transport like this:

gmail.com smtp-ipv4

That should do the job!

(1/2) Gmail now refuses to accept messages from my Postfix mail server if the PTR record is not set. Unfortunately I haven't been able to persuade my colo provider to set these records for my IPv6 addresses (or delegate rDNS to me).

The only way to "fix" this is by creating a mapping for the gmail.com domain that explicitly uses IPv4 for outgoing messages.
