Season 2 of "The Dead Zone" has a number of computers on display including Johnny's Apple Powerbook G4 that appears throughout the season. In Episode 4 there is an Apple iMac G5 and another Powerbook G4. iMac G5s also appears in Episode 5, and Episode 7 also has a brief appearance of a Panasonic Toughbook.

Here are a couple of films with tenuous links to Christmas. "Abominable" (snowmen... Christmas?) has an important role for an Apple Powerbook G4. Like the first film, "Die Hard 2" is set on Christmas Eve and has a glimpse of an Apple Macintosh SE and a Starring-the-Computer debut from the Psion MC.

When's the last time you heard of VIDIX (not Divx, not Xvid) in MPlayer? 20 years ago? Never? It'll be your best friend when you try to watch videos on a 1.33GHz Powerbook G4 (Radeon GPU; Novidia users are out of luck again). Kill your compositor or it won't work though (There's no tearing even without it).

I find myself back on my 12" #PowerBook running #MacOSX 10.5.8 Leopard. I’m inspired once again to compile the code for a nearly 20 year old Java 2 Mobile Edition MIDlet after having found a long standing bug and fixed it during the early pandemic.

Having found an old bookmark in my browser, I’ve looked up the Sun Java site in #InternetArchive and now have a working toolchain.

But apparently, this code is filled with MORE bugs? How the heck did I even get this to compile in the first place‽

Who needs sleep when there’s a fix needed for obsolete software? 🙃

After all these years it still boots up

Booted up my 12" PowerBook G4 tonight. Was looking for a database I started in Claris-/AppleWorks but couldn’t find it. Found myself trying to finally fix my bug in the kPix drawing program for J2ME capable phones, but couldn’t get my tools to compile it. 🙃

Played around a little with some other software on there (SixtyForce with Paper Mario) and thought about how we’re losing so much control of our data in the move to the cloud.

An enjoyable evening (though I was distracted from my primary goals).

And all the #netatalk stuff for transferring my #MacOS9 system folder from the #Pismo to the #PowerBookG4 :) Fine to have a running afp.conf, so it was a job of minutes to migrate it into the vm. And the copying is quite fast over ethernet.
