It’s been two months since I started developing Chicken Go! 🐔✨
In that time, I’ve made the character feel more fun and lively, added new features, pickups, traps — and there’s still so much more to come!
Progress might seem small, but balancing a 9-5 job and family life, every step forward feels like a huge win.
Feeling super motivated to keep going and make this game something special! 🚀

Just some screenshots from the current game version. The first one does show the console, listing all the special upgrades available right now in the game.

The second one does show the special modifier selection screen. You can also see the new "more information" system where you can click on terms to get more information about it.

Implementation progress: got the crawler written & integrated with the indexes + thumbnailer (+`.gitignore` support) but not tested. The vector search persistence system is truly shocking..... I think I need to back it in an `njodb` instance.

Next up:

- testing the crawler
- integrating with the rest of the app
- HTTP API
- starting working on the web interface

🎮 February was a grind! Spent 25 hours on my maze game, up from 18 last month. Longest session? Just 2 hours! Slowly but surely shaping this game, one hour at a time. Now? Refining the cube's feel, movement, and look. Let's keep at it! 🔧💡

We just added blood stains on the walls when enemies take damage. Also the player has animated arms now, which should improve the immersion quite a bit.
Next update for Sunken Shadows coming soon! ✨

#progressupdate on Sunken Shadows:

- new dungeon generator that makes maze like floors that are connected vertically and supports branching paths
- fixed issue with missing doors that were stopping progression
- animated glowing coral shader for the second biome
- new sound effects for getting hit, picking up gold and healing
- visual effects (vignette and screen shake) for getting hit, healing, picking up gold
- made pots breakable and have coins
- lots of small bugfixes

Dev progress on Sunken Shadows this weekend:
- implemented a mini map that shows the rooms on the current dungeon floor, which ones you've visited and the player position
- fixed wonky targeting for bomb fish enemies, where the raycast was colliding with their explosion area
- added chests with an opening animation and a nice animated light plane shader
- added custom game icon

Will publish a new build on itch once the current features are finalized.

Progress this weekend:
- fixed the player knife going off in random rotations since the raycast was colliding with the melee attack hitbox
- fixed controller trigger being used as button input acting inconsistently in Godot 4 (fix: use Input.is_action_just_pressed)
- built a mesh merging tool to optimize our GridMap based levels. It checks adjacent cells and removes internal faces and colliders
- fixed grapple pull stopping on any collision
