@AlasdairStuart

Congratulations to #PseudoPod for continually finding new ways to creep me out for 900 episodes! In the worst days of … all of this … when I couldn’t handle any other kind of story, I somehow kept coming back to this non-metaphorical #horror show. It still gives me a a shiver every time I hear the intro music and that line originated by @MurHerself: “… and I promise you, it’s true”. Here’s to 900 more.

Content Warning for, well, horror, folks:

I only recently discovered the writing of Christi Nogle, and I love it. This is the creepy story that won me over: “Resilience.” pseudopod.org/2020/05/22/pseud #ShortStory #Horror #AudioFiction #ChristiNogle #Pseudopod

Ha!!

Having a weird moment when one of my favorite internet radio stations, #RadioParadise, is playing Shiva in Exile's "Breathing" which is the theme to #PodCastle, the fantasy fiction podcast I used to be audio producer for. Such a weird moment to be hearing the entire song in such an unexpected moment.

Speaking of, are there #EscapeArtists folk out here in the fediverse?

“I’m always returning to Rapptown in my thoughts.”

…or am I?

#NightTerrace’s own @petraelliott narrates this week’s episode of the #PseudoPod #horror #fiction #podcast.

The story is Kaaron Warren’s #Ditmar-winning “The King in Yella”, a very Australian reimagining of “The King in Yellow”, and you can hear it in PseudoPod 880.

I know next to nothing about baseball, but episode 861 of #Pseudopod, "Swing Batter Batter" made the details of the sport seem eminently understandable, and kept me enthralled for 42 minutes. I enjoyed it.

I'm shamefully behind on my #podcast listening, but one reliable bright spot has been #EscapeArtists, especially #Pseudopod.

They play a lot of public domain works which I get, I really do (Escape Artists are legendary for paying print rates), and I don't want to diminish modern writers at all, but there are some absolute gems to be had. I've no doubt Sturgeon's Law applies, but there's still gold to be mined.

Case in point, The Curious Story of Susan Styles, a ghost story (or, charmingly, a Psychic Romance) from 1893 which is still hella enjoyable today, even though it was virtually unknown.

You can catch them here:

Disclaimer: I throw money at them, because they're worth it.

Sarah Eley, #Trans founder of the original #podcast that grew into the amazing #EscapeArtists family of podcasts, returned to #PseudoPod on #TransgenderDayOfVisibility to narrate a powerful, original Cynthia Zhang tale of #horror, #Queer rage, and vengeance that’s a big middle finger to the haters: “We, the Ones Who Raised Sam Gowers from the Dead”.

Content Warnings for #Homophobia, #Transphobia, and #Violence; It’s horror, folks.

The lovely folks at #PseudoPod, the horror fiction podcast, invited me to host an episode of flash fiction stories - and it came out yesterday!

They’re great! It’s creepy, eerie horror, not the visceral, violent kind. And one of them is by @bitterkarella, creator of the microfiction Twitter account the #MidnightPals, where beloved (and infamous) writers are lovingly lampooned and/or savagely satirised.

Find it in your podcast directory of choice (it’s episode 851), or you can listen to or read the stories on the website here: pseudopod.org/2023/02/03/pseud

is a nice idea I spotted on the bird site: leave reviews about your favourite audio dramas. I thought I'd start with PseudoPod. I love horror anthologies, so this one is right up my alley.

PseudoPod is a brilliant horror anthology podcast, with outstanding stories and an impressive back catalogue. Because it's so varied with different authors and voice actors, picking a favourite is hard but Trowel, Brush, Bones by Audrey Hollis (episode 779) really stood out. That's probably because it related to archaeology, but importantly it tells a story with important resonance in the real world. I especially like that after each story the host takes a few minutes to talk about the episode. It adds an extra dimension to the episode and helps you think about the story in a different way.

Is anyone else here familiar with the work of Orrin Grey? He's a horror/weird fiction short story author. Recurrent themes appear to be childhood & memory. Here's a round up of some narrations of his work pseudopod.org/people/orrin-gre #OrrinGrey #Pseudopod #Horror #WeirdFiction
